My experience was puzzling given the great reviews online for this cafe. I wanted to get bagels and it was around 3pm so Huffs Bagelry was closed unfortunately. I decided to try Tailored as they had Bagels on their menu and it had good reviews. So I ordered online and I got 2 'tailored bagels' and an iced chai latte. When I went there to pick it up, I checked my order and I received 2 toasted sandwiches and a hot chai latte. I explained to the employee that I firstly ordered a iced chai not a hot chai so they poured the hot chai into a plastic container and chucked ice into it , so it basically tasted like hot chai with ice which I thought was not great at all given I paid $7 for it. Secondly, the toasted sandwiches was definitely not what I ordered as I ordered a 'tailored bagel'. I explained the employee that this was not what I ordered. She told the owner (I think) who was of Asian descent and she came to talk to me. She explained that I ordered a toastie and not a Bagel. I was confused as my order said Bagel. She said that when you order online, even when you click Bagel, if you click an option for the Bagel type, it changes it to a toastie option which puzzled me even more. I did not understand why I would want a toastie if I clicked Bagel to begin with especially when there was a section showing tailored toasties on the menu online. She said that when you click multi-grain or sourdough as the type of Bagel, it changes to a toastie and she was correct as it said toastie as the subheading but at the same time, under that same heading it shows mayo, aioli, plain bagel and multi grain bagel so it was clearly hard to understand. The owner kept telling us that we are a first time customer and we didn't know how to use their system online and we should call up next time to order but I was saying that their online ordering system needs improvement because I didn't want other people to get annoyed at this issue if they ordered bagels. She proceeded to say that we were 30 mins late to receiving the order but I responded saying that it has nothing to do with the ordering issue and given that much time, we still received a hot chai latte instead of an iced chai. The owner then made a ridiculous comment again saying that that's how they make iced chais but I am pretty sure you don't pour a hot chai into ice and serve it as iced chai so it was just ridiculous. Even the employee was backing up her owner and saying they tailor the order to the customer but our order was definitely not tailored as they said. After all that, the owner gave up and insisting that she wouldn't give us a refund, she would make the order again to save time and when she came back with the order, she said 'Sorry that you made a mistake on our ordering system' which I thought was again puzzling to hear. I would just say that people who want to order bagels, be careful when ordering as the online system is not great and the service especially in times of confusion is definitely not up to standard so calling them instead would be a better option. I am not trying to undermine a business and they have a lot of great reviews so they must be decent but in terms of bagels and confusion among orders, it wasn't great and I wouldn't order again from here just based on this experience. I do wish them well and I hope they serve customers who have issues with orders a bit better next time. The only reason I am writing this review is so that people who order bagels understand how to order...
Read moreToday we went for brunch to this local Carnegie Cafe. Yes we did have a booking. Regrettably We ended up having to wait 10 minutes for a table to be cleared.
The owner has been very friendly for many years but that doesn’t necessarily make the experience a good one. Staff were courteous and obliging but improving the service needs attention. My Wife ordered corn fritters with poached eggs on the side. While the poached eggs were perfectly cooked,( I ate them ) She did not enjoy the corn fritters which were hard and bland. I tried them and I am sure that they’ve come from a packet or they were frozen and just heated up but none the less they were definitely not worthy of the price charged.
A male friend at out table ordered a very simple toasted cheese and ham with tomato. Upon opening his toasty he saw the smallest amount of cheese. He had no choice but send it back to be fixed reheated and sent back to him.
Personally, I had a Glicks bagel with grilled chicken and avocado and I found it very tasty and enjoyable .
It would be nice to be given cutlery on the table without having to ask.
My suggestion is water gets refilled and empty crockery taken away after people’s meals are finished and not left sitting on the table for 40 minutes. Those corn fritters really were not great! Are they fresh ??
The actual menu has plenty of options with a huge range of BLTs , Bagels or toasties under $15
Multiple coffees and English tea was more than acceptable and while this is a very busy popular local Carnegie cafe, I feel some improvement could be made.
None the less we will return. Supporting local cafes is important and it’s good to see how...
Read moreBooked for 5 at 12:30 for lunch. Easy to book through their online system. Great variety of things on the menu, though it seemed there were more savoury options than sweet. They did have some pastries in a display case so that is always an option if you have a sweet tooth. I ordered the smashed avo with halloumi and smoked salmon as additionals. It was a very generous serving so very filling. Tasted as expected - can never go wrong with smashed avo. Everything went very well together and complemented one another. For a drink I ordered the iced mocha which was not too sweet and not too overpowered by the coffee either - well balanced. My cousins ordered the salmon bagel with a cold drip coffee, the toasty burger with a green smoothie, the tommy special with an iced latte, and a crispy chicken bagel with a yellow smoothie. I can’t vouch for their meals, but everything was presented very nicely and didn’t take too long to bring out. Total was 139.50 which comes to about $32.50 each which is pretty good for a group of 5!
Staff were pretty good, repeating our orders to make sure they got everything right.
Location is good as there is parking next to the cafe at Carnegie station. It’s also a great space as there are options for outdoor seating too.
Overall a pleasant experience. Might come again if I’m in the area to try some...
