Would give zero star if I could. Worst customer service comparing to any Japanese restaurant that I’ve been to. We arrived as a party of 3 and asked to be seated all together and were told there weren’t any table for us, even though there were 4 empty tables. Kudos to the waitress who attended to us, BUT THE MANAGER LADY (or head waitress) IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. Our waitress kept asking the manager’s permission to merge two tables together to accomodate for us three but any resolution she suggested got turned down immediately by the manager and she kept saying if we wanted to eat here we have to wait. We asked if you can ask the other customer (who just sat down and got their food, haven’t even started eating) to move a little bit to the right so we can merge the tables (keep in mind there were plenty of space because of the number of empty tables there were) and the waitress was happy to do that for us but of course the manager turned that down too. If that customed said no I’d understand but this is the manager refusing to do anything to accomodate us. Never knew going to eat in group of 3 was a cr*me until now. The manager never even looked at us once. I’m okay with waiting and we have waited for at lease 10 minutes but she suggested we wait for the customers who JUST GOT THEIR FOOD to finish eating, how long do you expect us to wait? If they take 1-2 hours eating we have to wait for 1-2 hours EVEN THOUGH there were 4 empty tables that you refused to merge? The restaurant wasn’t even busy, only half of the tables were filled but the manager rather stood there doing nothing than bother to give us an explanation or even just a “sorry for the inconvenience but we’ll try our best to seat you”. Attitude is everything in customer service and the manager’s attitude is just horrible. WE ARE CUSTOMERS NOT BEGGARS, please stop telling me “If you want to eat here you have to wait” with that HORRIBLE ATTITUDE of yours. Your place having decent (not outstanding) food does not mean that we have to beg you to be able to eat here. We have been here many times but never again after this time, unless they promote that attentive waitress to be manager instead of the current horrible one. I don’t understand why you can be a manager but your attitude will drive this lovely ramen bar...
Read moreShyun is located in the heart of Carnegie which is saturated with variety of restaurants. The interior design was Japanese authentic. The ambience was really nice when it is not too busy. However, since the table set up was too close one to another, it starts getting to feel uncomfortable and difficult to move when it is getting busy. The customer service was attentive but it would be better to give little bit smile when serving.
We ordered :
Oyako Don (chicken and onion with egg omelette on rice) for $9.90. The chicken, egg omelette and onions were perfectly cooked. It also had great presentation, unfortunately it was slightly tasteless.
Miso Katsu Don Pork (Deep fried pork cutlet with miso sauce on rice) for $11.50. The pork cutlet was perfectly fried, it was very crispy outside and tender inside. The miso sauce had perfect balance taste; we enjoyed this dish and it's really recommended.
Chicken Curry Rice (Japanese curry rice with deep fried chicken cutlet) for 12.50. The chicken cutlet was perfectly fried, it was very crispy outside and tender inside. The taste of Japanese curry sauce was absolutely fantastic.
We'd say that it's one of the best Japanese curry we've ever tried. We enjoyed every bite of this dish as it had perfect flavour and balance of seasoning. It was definitely recommended to try the chicken curry when you go to this restaurant.
Shyun Roll (Salmon, prawn, avocado & cucumber roll) for $14.90. The sashimi on the Shyun Roll served fresh, they're slightly above average but not the best we've ever tried.
All dishes had beautiful, appealing presentation and decent quality of the food.Today's winner was Chicken Curry rice and Miso Katsu Don Pork.Overall, we enjoyed most of the dishes ordered and certainly will come back to try other dishes.

Even though their prices have gone up over time (can’t blame them for that), Shyun is still relatively cheap ($13-16 a bowl). Serving sizes are deceiving - I always think the portions are so small when I get served, but then I’m unable to finish my meal! So expect to get nice and full when you eat here
The menu is very large meaning there’s something for everyone. Highly recommend getting a few sides to go with your mains. I recommend takoyaki (octopus balls) and agedashi tofu.
They have a smooth ordering system where you can just go up the counter and order what you like, where you pay before you eat. It’s great because you never have to worry about split bills. With the ramen bowls, you can pick your soup base (between miso and shoyu) which means you get to personalise it a bit!
They do not take bookings but if they’re full, they write your name down and call you when they have a table ready so you can wander around Carnegie until then.
My one reservation about this place is how they aren’t yet doing their bit to be sustainable. Plastic cups, cutlery, and containers litter the entire restaurant (you can see heaps just in the one photo I attached). I totally understand that disposable cups/cutlery cut down on the need for dishwashing, but they should really invest in biodegradable paper items - which pretty much every other restaurant these days have. They get a few online orders for food as well that go out in those terrible plastic containers. I’m hoping this restaurant can take a step in the right direction to help reduce plastic waste and help our dying planet.
Overall, highly recommend you give this place a try. And try not to use their plastic while...
