I would normally go to My Tho to eat however, Thursday night with a cold decided to get some takeaway Pho from this place as I thought that it must be ok as they seemed to just do Pho. Big mistake as I ordered and came back and picked up the order. I asked if there was lemon in the bag?, also chilli?, bean sprouts ? mint, fish sauce ? I was met with a nod and a yes, arrived home and found that the broth was cold, fatty and greasy, the only item other than the rice noodles was some rare meat, old meat and a couple of old beef balls. The only veg was some spring onion which was green however didn’t smell of anything I put it in a pot with just the rare meat and then realised I actually couldn’t bring myself to taste it. I fished out everything and the put the broth in the noodle container. Rather than just give a bad review I thought I would go back and give the broth with all the gristly meat back in a container as evidence. I was met with defensiveness and denial then was informed that I had not brought everything back. Insinuating that I had obviously eaten the rest of it ! Gosh really! There were 2 people in there who said I clearly had an issue, seriously 😳 Making an effort to go back and inform them was an actual inconvenience as I live a few suburbs away. Sitting in My Tho now having a great Pho I am reading all the 4 star reviews about this place and am left perplexed as my...
Read moreTried Hanoi pho for the first time.
Not having it before, one cannot say if it is authentic or not - but one can say that saigon(southern) pho is definitely sweeter with holy basil and beans shoots with hoi sin sauce and siracha but northern pho is definitely all about the broth. Not a bottle of fish sauce in sight but pickled garlic and chilli oil without lemongrass nor dried shrimps.
Ordered: Special Beef Pho - slight char/smoky notes with much stronger aromatic notes than Saigon Pho. Not sweet. Good body, lots of herbs but no basil or bean shoots - tasty.
Stir fried beef pho - sautéed beef with spices and garlic rounded off the broth and the aromatic notes were really faint. The sautéed beef however was a little chewy.
Very basic place. Order and pay at the counter. Help yourself to fresh chilli and lemon wedges plus water/ tea. Friendly staff.
Place needs a lick of paint and they appear to use the wrong varnish on the tables which made it feel a...
Read moreNoticed a splash of colours on Cramer St so decided to check it out for lunch. Hanoi Pho mainly serves beef/chicken/tofu pho, spring rolls or fried rice, so we ordered 1 x rare beef and 1 x rare beef with beef balls. We also ordered 1 x Vietnamese iced coffee and 1 x soft drink can (they only sell zero sugar options).
$16 for a standard size bowl, no different size options. Be aware that the pho is not your typical southern VN style. I would've liked to see less spring onion and less broth. I had to move up the pieces of meat before taking the photo as it was drowning underneath. Food came out piping hot, so that was a bonus.
Order and pay at the counter and they accept card which was good. Self service station provides fresh chilli, lemon, tea and homemade dipping sauces.
Unfortunately not the best pho in Melbourne as per the signage on the window but worth checking out if you're in Preston and want to try...
