Happy As Larry Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

Was sadly dissappointed with this place.

Really great idea with the play area out the back but is definitely not maintained. A simple vacuum of the play area and wash the toys every now and then would have made a big big difference as most things were broken and really dirty.

The food was overwhelming. Too many flavours thrown together that all over power each other. The pancakes were drowned in chocolate sauce and smothered in toppings that was way too much. The smoothies don't actually say what's in them, there was so much honey in the Mango smoothie it was sickly sweet and did not compliment itself. The Fritters fell apart from the big chunks of kale inside them which is all you could taste. One of our meals got forgotten completely.

After seeing the reviews of this cafe I was looking forward to a really nice breakfast. Unfortunately I walked away leaving a half eaten meal very disappointed. I ordered the breakfast board which included a granola, fruit and yoghurt bowl. The fruit wasn’t ripe and I had to pull out the kiwi to cut the skin off it. Otherwise it was ok. The avocado on my toast had far too much raw red onion through it and had obviously been refrigerated for some time. I didn’t go back for a second mouthful. The egg was poached well though. The pulled pork my wife had wasn’t great and neither of us wanted more than a fork full. She also had “scrambled” eggs which was more like a half cooked omelette. Been here 4 times now. Food and coffee are very good but service is very hit and miss. Staff are pleasant however most seem very inexperienced with forgotten/ wrong orders, no cutlery, no glasses given for water when water bottle put on table and left for 10 minutes until we were able to ask for glasses.Staff also eating from a large bowl of communal staff fries as they walk past with orders is a huge no no.I thought the cafe was brand new because of the inexperienced staff but see from previous comments months ago that same issue.
