Read moreThis is officially my favorite cafe of all time. i have come here 3 times and each time that first bite, i have almost cried. our first time there, my partner and i were looking for somewhere nice to eat in the city for breakfast, and haven't had the best of luck, but oh my god, did we hit gold on this one. we were walking down this side street, saw the first cafe, then down to Hardware Société, at first we were looking from outside and in awe at the idea of eating in the kitchen, then we were warmly welcomed, like we were regulars by one of the amazing people that work there, and decided to take the chance to try this experience, and am i so glad we did. even if the food wasn't as amazing as it is, i would have still recommended just on the idea of sitting basically in a kitchen and seeing these amazing people hard at work. but oh my god, and I'm seriously not exaggerating i haven't had better. The first time here i had the Bircher (basically oatmeal as i have learnt) but so much more than basic breakfast. whoever designed this menu, these recipes, seriously appreciates, loves, and creates food. i took my first bite and i was in ecstasy, i felt that tear twinge. the beauty in using such a simple and well done base, and using the additions to the base to create such bursts of flavor, just so smoothly work together, i didn't feel like anything was over done flavor wise, it was thoroughly thought through, each ingredient by itself was its own great thing, but together it didn't feel like war between flavors, but a river flowing together. and even more so these additions added different textures that just lifted this dish higher. every time i eat something here, i feel like I've eaten something fresh and home cooked, and not the mental feeling, that physical feeling, the feel that what your eating is what gives you that perfect breath of fresh air
I've now had: The Bircher with: caramelised pineapple, passionfruit, blueberries, freeze dried lychee
The ARROZ CON LECHE (basically sweet rice porridge) with: strawberry confiture, fresh strawberries
The BAKED EGGS with baguette choice : UN — celeriac puree, confit shallot, broad bean, pea & basil pistou, tomato aioli, ricotta salata
and seriously everyone of them is amazing and better than anything i could find in my hometown, and we have 11 cafe's with kitchens, and some of them are pretty good.
i know everyone has their own taste and tastebuds, but i do so hope you fall in love with this place like i have because it deserves all the appreciation it can receive. for the people who have been apart of this places creation and present have created something beautiful in this world and I'm glad to have been able to...
Read moreThe next morning, I woke the kids up early because I wanted to enjoy the breakfast (for me, a good brekkie is important to kick-start the day) before heading to out destination for the day - Melbourne Zoo which was free-for-kids on weekends. I wanted to take advantage of the promotion.
We walked to The Hardware Societe which took us less than 10 minute. In fact we were too early that we had to wait for them to open for business - talk about determination 😬 when I thought that we were kiasu, there were other locals that arrive before the shutter was lifted too..
As we were one of the earliests to arrive, we managed to get a good table (by the time we finished eating and left, the whole cafe was full house and there were others waiting outside). ◾Deux baked eggs - there were 3 choices to choose from and we settled for chorizo sausage, potato, piquillo peppers, queso mahon, toasted almond, aoili. No regret as every ingredients combined perfectly for baked egg lovers. ◾Pork belly and fried eggs with cauliflower, gruyère, onion croquettes, pepper jam - never thought that I'd be having pork belly for breakfast but I did! Similar to our siew yuk but still having the crispy skin and tender meat, even the young ones loved the meat. A must order ◾Tuna millefeuille - seared tuna, tartar of scallop, tuna & radish, avocado, yuzu aoili, pickled cucumber, poached egg.
After the heavy breakfast, we walked back to our apartment to take the rental car and headed to Melbourne Zoo where we spent the next few hours exploring all...
