Unwelcomed.
A disappointing experience. The staff's indifference and condescending attitude towards customers created an unwelcoming atmosphere. Their dismissive behavior overshadowed any enjoyment I could have had while appreciating the artwork. Improvement in customer service is crucial for the store's reputation and overall experience.
From the moment I entered, it was evident that the staff had little interest in assisting customers or fostering a welcoming environment. Any attempts at conversation were met with complete disregard for my existence with the exception of occasional eye contact amidst their personal and loud conversation concerned with enjoying animal cruelty. The dismissive responses and a lack of genuine engagement sent a clear message that the presence of a customer was either an inconvenience or simply inconsequential to them.
Despite my personal unwelcoming experience I continued to browse the store as I had travelled quite a long way, several hours, to be there; what made matters worse however, was witnessing the staff's condescending attitude towards other customers, particularly non-English speaking. Their tone and choice of words were disrespectful and belittling, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone present. Such behavior not only tarnishes the reputation of the business but also undermines the artists whose work is being represented, which should be inclusive and inviting to all to enjoy and purchase.
Although I am grateful to have seen and enjoyed some of the works in the store, it was a rushed and uncomfortable experience. The staffs demeanor overshadowed any enjoyment I could have derived from the artwork on display and made it impossible to even visualise the artworks in my office or home, a crucial step of the art-buying process for me.
It is my hope that the business takes immediate steps to address these issues and improve the overall customer experience. Treating visitors with respect, attentiveness, and genuine interest should be a priority for any establishment, especially one that aims to showcase and promote art. This is something I can honestly say would've made a considerable difference and possibly even led me to have left the store with a happy purchase as there were a few works that had really caught my eye.
In the circumstance of the business not being proactive to this complaint, I urge the partnering artists to attend the store and reconsider their involvement with such a business where the atmosphere is so uninviting that it certainly serves to decrease the likelihood of selling an artwork let alone even...
Read moreI stumbled across Outré Gallery while in Melbourne and honestly, it was one of the highlights of my trip. The vibe of the place is just so welcoming — not pretentious at all — and the team there (shoutout to the lovely girls working that day) were genuinely friendly and happy to chat, answer questions, and share their knowledge without ever being pushy.
Their collection is seriously impressive — such a cool mix of styles and artists. I ended up buying two prints that were shipped to me interstate, and they arrived super fast, really well packaged, and in perfect shape. You can tell they take pride in what they do, from the curation right through to the delivery.
Definitely not your average gallery — it’s got a personality of its own, and I’ll absolutely be back next time I’m...
Read moreEvery time I’m in Melbourne I make a point of visiting Outre Gallery. I love the vibe and there’s always something new to look at in both their lower and upper levels. The staff are available and friendly if you have questions, but mostly leave you alone to look around and enjoy yourself. A good mix of international and local art pieces of varying styles, but mostly pop culture. If you like the artist Shag then this is the place to go. They have art books, zines, art prints and pins for sale, plus many of the art pieces. I’ve been to a few of their exhibition launch events and it’s a fun opportunity to meet the artists and have a free drink in an open and inclusive environment. Easy to find on Elizabeth Street....
