We booked a room for three nights for our stay in Melbourne. The location of the hotel and the cleanliness of the room when we first arrived was very good. Initially we were very pleased.
However, when we returned to the room on the each night our room had not been made up, and we were without things like toilet paper because of this. We had to call reception in order to get it. They told us they would come and fix everything on night three. Got back to the room and...nope. Luckily we knew where the extra towels, toilet paper etc was kept due to another incident, but more on that in a moment. Now, one night of this service being missed is understandable, but all three really is not good. It is a service we had paid for, after all.
However, the worst incident was on the first night. The evacuation alarm went off at about 2am in the morning. While obviously that in itself isn't Ibis' fault, the total lack of staff assistance during the evacuation was. We were on the 17th floor and at no point while descending the many flights of stairs - which we had to access via a supply room hence knowing where everything was stored - to get to ground level did we see a staff member. My wife and I had to tell some people to take the stairs as they were trying the elevators. No assistance anywhere.
When we got to ground level there were no staff around to make sure everyone was OK or direct people to a safe location. One of the guests had to ask one of the firemen who had turned up what had happened - apparently someone had been smoking in their room so there was no danger - because there was NO staff around to tell us anything. Guess Ibis' stance is "every man for themselves?"
Not terribly impressed, I must stay. Won't be staying there for our next trip,...
Read moreMy stay wasn't actually planned, my connecting flight was cancelled so the airport paid for a night's stay at Ibis. I was very happy with the room, check-in/out service, and breakfast buffet. The reason I give this three stars is because of my experience whilst trying to sleep. I only slept for 3 hours due to very late arrival after such a long and stressful day, I woke up for breakfast as it was included in the airport voucher and then decided to squeeze in 2 more hours of sleep after breakfast. I put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door because I wanted to get as much sleep as possible and it is already so hard for me to initially get to sleep. I was woken up to very loud banging on my door 30 minutes before my alarm by someone shouting "Housekeeping!!" I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep but they kept banging and yelling "Housekeeping!!!", after I said "no" three times they banged and shouted again so I got up out of bed and went to the door to say no twice, then they paused and asked if I needed a dental kit. I was so exhausted from the stress and lack of sleep from my cancelled flight, this really upset me especially after I put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. I was not able to get back to sleep afterwards as I was shocked awake. The only minor complaints I have are that the mini fridge was only stocked with milk, I think you can call for extra things upon request but it would be nice to have a snack of some sort readily available to eat. I noticed the toiletries are more eco-friendly due to being in large bottles for everyone to use but there was no conditioner, only body wash and shampoo. Overall the room, food, and service was great but I suggest staff should be reminded to not disturb if there is a sign...
Read moreEnjoyed our stay. It was well located and close to places we wanted to visit.
Thought it a bit odd that there were no luggage racks in the room and yet plenty of places to put them. Rooms definitely need them especially for people who might have issues with bending down to luggage on the floor. I put my bag on the couch but Mum put hers on the bed (as she is elderly and didn't want to have to bend down) which isn't ideal for you as it could mean that the bed linen could get soiled.
Was not happy with having to pay for parking on top of the room tariff. For $360 odd it should be included.
Breakfast was nice and plentiful. Thought there should have been some watermelon though as I love it!
Think that every hotel now should have drinking chocolate in the hot drink supplies. They come in sachets and can be easily obtained. The days of people being satisfied with just tea or coffee is outdated.
Staff were mostly exceptional.
More care has to be taken with writing down room numbers on the vehicle ticket as this caused some confusion when we were collecting it on checkout as the wrong room number was noted on ours. I had to tell the attendant my room number 3 times as this wasn't what was on the ticket. He was very apologetic for this and it caused unnecessary delay for us and other people waiting to checkout too.
Was very pleased to inadvertently meet someone at breakfast who I've seen on tv so I couldn't help but chat and have a photo taken!
Thank you for the...
