Hoagie's Smoked BBQ sandwiches — Restaurant in Melbourne

I recently had the displeasure of visiting Hoagies Heroes in Dromana, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. I had heard whispers of this place, lauding its reputation, but my visit left me horrified and appalled. From the excessive mountain of meat piled into the sandwich to the ghastly excuse for coleslaw that resembled nothing short of a concoction made from PVA glue, there was absolutely no redemption to be found in this disastrous meal.

Let's dive right into the meat monstrosity that they dare to call a sandwich. I do appreciate a generous portion, as any food enthusiast would, but Hoagies Heroes took it to an entirely different dimension. It was as if I was embarking on an archaeological excavation, digging through layers upon layers of meat in search of a mere semblance of balance. The sheer excess of meat overwhelmed any hope of tasting other flavors that may have dared to exist. I can tell you, it was a disheartening experience to bite into a sandwich that was essentially an egregious overload of meat.

Now, let's address the travesty they dared to label as coleslaw. I have had my fair share of coleslaw from various establishments, and I can confidently declare that the coleslaw at Hoagies Heroes was nothing short of an abomination. Its gelatinous consistency brought to mind memories of glue, and the flavor was an absolute atrocity to the taste buds. I couldn't bring myself to consume even a morsel of the coleslaw that came alongside my sandwich. It left a lingering, repugnant taste in my mouth that I was...

This is a hidden gem that if you aren't into American BBQ or subs, you wouldn't know existed in the first place. So to all the people doing a quick Google because you are new to the area or your local go-to is closed, listen up.

The owner just gets it. Flavour, ratios, meat, all of it. The sandwiches here are something I have not experienced in all Melbourne and I doubt you have either. The bread is outstanding, soft yet puts up a good fight and holds it's own against the mountain of fillings it's up against it. The slew of conventional fillings (slaw, fried pickles, cheese, marinara sauce, jalapenos etc.) are everything they should be and more to compliment the main attraction which is, of course, the meat.

Whether it be the 17h (including rest time) smoked brisket, the tender pulled pork, the perfectly seasoned chicken or the melt in your mouth pastrami. Everything here is done to perfection and you will find your self fighting harder than ever before just to take another bite when your stomach is already 5 times larger than it should be.

Do yourself a favor and get some loaded fries while you're at it. If these ingredients are phenomenal on bread, how could they be bad on fries..!?

I would recommend all that would like to enjoy the great atmosphere and top-tier food quality that rivals other top tier (preference) burger joints within Eastern Australia.

I went here with a large group and was welcomed with a positive greeting. Afterwards, the service from ordering to eating matched the amount of positive vibes that were presented by the staff. The person taking our order was so positive and engaging with all the customers, ensuring that he could help out where possible, which I find some places nowadays do not have that amount of positivity.

We found that the food was made and delivered to us so fast, just like maccas, but they DID NOT lose in quality for the speed. The food quality was rival with other top-tier burger joints within eastern Australia.

I have not shed too much light on the kitchen staff, but when we talked, they provided great story on how they envisaged this place. The kitchen staff does not disappoint with his creation, speed, and quality of the food.

As a bonus review down here if you make it, I would suggest trying to spin the wheel of fortune to see what food you should eat, I can say I was not disappointed and the group was not as well. All recommendations from the staff would be great for your stomach.

Also I bought another burger for later tonight dinner, hope it'll work but they did let us know how to make the burger nice after it was made...
