Vietnam has great food. it's true! I was there to try it all. however coming back to Melbourne, it doesn't feel the same. Many Vietnamese restaurants don't taste the same. however, that was when this restaurant came in. after many restaurants. This restaurant finally tasted like I was back in Vietnam. Their pho was rich in flavour, with loads of meat chunks, and served generously like they did in Vietnam.
And the service... oh man! even McDonalds couldn't catch up!!!
We were greeted by lovely friendly staff who took our order as soon as they could. We had a big order and we thought it would take AGES! but we were surprised that our order only took under a minute! I have been to many restaurants around Melbourne and your normal wait time would have been ideally 8-15 min but this restaurant shocked me. To all other restaurants, you gotta try and do better! because this is the best service I have experienced.
So to the newcomers, here's what I recommend you;
(Summer) Bun cha gio: perfect for really hot Melbourne days (if you know what I mean) its a spring roll and noodle salad normally served cold. I recommend it because it has loads of mixed flavours and its really delicious.
-(Winter/anytime) Pho (specifically the Beef and chicken combination); it's warm, it's hearty and most importantly it's delicious, there's lots of meat chunks and noodles with it so rest assured that you won't get ripped off. you will also get a tray of Mint, chilli, lemon and string beans. if you don't know how it works, you squeeze the lemon and put in the string beans and the mint, but if you are a spice buff, then put on the chilli. overall, the pho leaves you with a warm tummy and it's great!
Overall, this is the place to go when you have the homecoming blues, its yum, efficient and leaves you feeling satisfied. definitely recommend, 10/10. It made me shout "I...
Read moreLooking for the best Pho on Victoria Street, well stop looking. The simple canteen style decor is well worn, and for very good reason. As the focus is on Pho, the menu is not that extensive, but that would not cause complaint. Tea is complimentary on arrival.
The stock has a very traditional taste and comes with condiments which allow you to create your own flavour. The pho is served with bean shoots, Asian basil, chill and lemon ($8). The pho comes in beef, chicken, and a variety of offal, with your choice of noodles. Smaller bowls are on offer ($6). A Stewed Beef Pho is also available.
Be sure to give the Spring Rolls ($6 x 10) test run, served with Vietnamese mint, iceberg lettuce and dipping sauce with shredded carrot. Very fresh and crisp.
Part of the joy of dinning here is constructing the dishes for your own tastes, and it is very economical. Chu can be bustling and service is always fast. It certainly has a good reputation amongst other pho lovers and rightly so. It has been a cornerstone on the strip for years, and it looks like it will be...
Read moreWalking through Victoria street to pick the one for dinner, it wasn’t hard at all to see the busiest restaurant that only a single table left. The Chef has a diverse background for his taste, having my own order and observed the food trolley travel in and out unstoppably showing how good they are. However, it’s not only food to keep this little house busy, but the setting and the staff given a feeling of family. Pho! OMG the lady has told me their stock has been in R&D for 22 years and it took the first 2 years of influence to establish the public taste, now they’ve been hooked up lol (she’s laugh out loud literally). I have to say again, Pho is outstanding here! Not too strong but not tasteless and the feeling of satisfaction at the end is memorable. Like the lady’s name, Hien! Her names meaning implies exactly her foods, nice and generosity! By the way, Vietnamese ice coffee is off the table again, combination of real Aussie coffee with condensed milk is kind off topping to make your dinner...
