“Johnnys Elwood Bodega” is a special cafe that pleases us with its quality coffee that blends the coffee beans themselves and serves them to me. I think there are very few people who are not satisfied with the coffee quality and products. It is one of the special places where coffee lovers leave satisfied. First of all, thank you for the quality coffee. However, unfortunately I cannot express the same satisfaction regarding the service. I was told ‘watch out he’s grumpy but the coffee is good’ - and never a truer word was said! Actually, I didn’t get to experience the grumpiness, only the passion, and the coffee was hands down the best I’ve had in Melbourne on this visit (and I’ve had more than a few). The skill, expertise and artisanal flare needed to produce a coffee of this calibre can not be underestimated, and it’s something that conventional coffee roasters are unable to match or produce! Coffee excellent in quality and presentation. Staff friendly and knowledgeable about coffee and probably knowledgeable about most things. I once made the mistake of asking for an English Breakfast Tea. The barista told me, 'We do coffee'. So, no tea. The leafy courtyard out the back is a chilled and quiet space - you can't hear the vinyl records from there (good thing or bad thing or who cares?). Food looks like a mediocre afterthought, but I haven't tried it yet. Some reviews report encounters with an owner who has been grumpy. Not my experience.
