Great food and the owner was very friendly. Turned my tofu hating partner into a tofu lover! We came back for his birthday. He had fish and chips the first time and found it the best fish he’s had for ages - it’s got a Japanese tempura twist. The bento box was everything we needed. The owner recommended an off menu tempura mash potato ball and we loved it!! The drinks were good too and wait not long The only downside was the service. They have signs up saying they’re understaffed but they could honestly lose the lady waitressing there. When we first arrived she was on her phone and ignored us. Awkward… She also almost got the order wrong (chicken instead of tofu) We were kinda on edge but the food turned it around. Good vibes Give Kappaya a chance!

Kappaya is, admittedly, a strange restaurant. It won't be for everyone but I like it. There was a time when it was legitimately Japanese but that's long gone. The food is still good but now more Chinese and Southeast Asian, and it's generally best to go with what's on the blackboard or even off-menu. Another reason I still return is the people - in my experience, they've been very kind and generous, and it has a family feel. It's also in a nice, generally chilled spot in the Convent.

Food was confusing. A lot of deep fried items. My dim sims didn’t look home made and were undercooked. My bento box obvs wasn’t a bento box. I paid $19 for 4 deep fried chicken pieces. 😬 Cafe ambience was confusing. It needs a good pressure hose! Grubby. Too many menus. Most disappointing part of the Abbotsford Convent experience. Please find a replacement operator.

This place is horrible. It took for 30 minutes to get 2 coffees and I thought "ok maybe they are busy so it can happen!" Buy it took for 2 hours to get those horrible meals served. I never experienced anything worse than this in my life. Basically this food is not Japanese style at all!!! Secondly I really don't understand why it takes too long to serve the food. Literally they serve just plain steams rice and mixed salad. Miso soup taste like instant soup, chicken was extremely salty, fried tofu was dry.. if you want to try it is totally up you but prepare yourself to experience the worst food in the world. One more the Asian lady from the cafe was so rude. I wish I could five negative 5 stars. They don't deserve even one star. Remember that this is...

I have reviewed this place 3 times but each time I go to Abbotsford Convert I eat there but now I’m avoiding the restaurant it’s just disappointing I’ve had the curry puff and the salt n pepper tofu and even the toastie. All of them were just plain bad and sadly my favourite the Watermelon juice the actually food is very bland and not tasty. Sorry two stars

Old review They definitely changed hands from the old owners I had salt n pepper tofu it was good but there was like nothing on the menu and hardly any Japanese stuff UPDATE i went back a week ago and it was a lot better 1 star...
