Wow! My wife and I and our baby attended this evening This is food is what it’s all about: authentic / rustic / tasty Josephine sells herself short by saying this is not fine class dining, because it absolutely is. Knowing the history and the family connection she has to her food just made everything so much more enjoyable. The set menu was spectacular, fresh and home made. Delicious courses and varied. The setting was cozy and warm and the staff were attentive. Josephine took particular interest in our daughter and proudly told us of her own upbringing in Abruzzo and cooking with her mother where her food comes from. The fixed set menu was carefully selected and we polished every plate Serving size was perfect. Wine selection was a small but nicely accustomed to the dining experience with enough to please anyone. This little place is a stand-out gem in an area not known for good places to eat. The business model is simplicity itself. There's no menu. You get what host and pasta maker, Josie, prepares on the day. You start with antipasto, follow with three different types of pasta, back that up with another dish--in our case it was meatballs in sugo--and finish with a small sweet. Everything is superbly fresh and made with genuine love and care. Josie is hard-working and super friendly; she really makes you feel at home. There's a small wine list that features at least one red and one white from Josie's family area of Abruzzo. One thing worth noting: Josie has been struggling to hire staff, so service can be a bit slow on busy nights. I'm sure that once she's properly staffed, the place will hum like clockwork. I've lived in Pascoe Vale for 25 years and have discovered this wonderful rare gem hidden out of sight. The Set menu price was brilliant as it takes all the fuss out of ordering; and really, who could complain at the price for a four course meal, of authentic, rustic and the most delicious food you'll have this side of Carlton?!! It was like stepping back in time, visiting my Nona. Those memories came flooding back instantly with the fist mouthful of Celebration Soup. The owner Josepina, wonderful and so articulate in taste about provincial experience, so eloquent in her descriptions. I highly recommend it as an experience, and will be returning again very soon.
