Le Saigon Banh Mi is a new Vietnamese bakery located on Keilor Road, Essendon North. 🥖
Owner David is one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. He recently quit his corpo 9-5 and took a big leap of faith, to try something new and something hes more passionate about. He loves sharing a piece of his culture through food and flavour. 🇻🇳
On offer is a selection of banh mi, all around $10 each, as well as some specialty drinks and some desserts. At the moment they are getting their rolls outsourced (they were nice and crusty), but have just upgraded their electricity and will soon will be baking in house.
✔️ Crispy Pork - the pork is crispy, tender and not fatty (which is why I enjoyed it!). I would add some sauce next time. ⭐️ BBQ Pork - the winner for me, every bite was delicious, plenty of sauce, texture. ✔️ Pistachio Tiramisu - we couldn’t taste the pistachio, maybe if there was some spread layered throughout. But as a regular tiramisu, it’s great!!
I’m so glad I wandered in and gave it a try, everything was so fresh and the service i recieved was definitely not like any banh mi spot i’ve ever been to - usually non-exisisant. Only open for 5 weeks so far and theyve already got 58 raving Google reviews. 👏🏽
I know everyone always has their favourite spots, but if youre around, think about supporting a new small business. I’ll definitely be back and i think you...
Read moreWe tried the BBQ pork and chicken banh mi, and wow—absolutely packed with flavour! One thing I’ve noticed is every banh mi joint has its own style, and this place definitely hits different. Honestly, I think it’s underrated. I’d put this in my top 5 spots, and that’s saying something considering it’s up against some of the old-school classics in St Albans and Footscray.
Huge credit for re-toasting the tiger bread—crispy enough to give that satisfying crunch but not so brittle that it flakes apart. You can tell they know what they’re doing because they wrap it in brown paper before bagging—smart move since they make it saucy and full of punch. First bite? Straight up pwoah! My wife always knows the food is on point when I shake my head three times after that first bite—and this was one of those moments.
The spring rolls were another win—crispy on the outside, moist inside, and honestly so good they didn’t even need dipping sauce. I’ll definitely be back to try the tiramisu next time.
Only downside? The narrow walkway and tricky parking out front on such a busy road. But honestly, for food this good, it’s...
Read moreUnfortunately this place just didn't live up to the hype. The spring rolls were cooked to order and were nice and crispy with good flavour. The cold rolls were large but lacking herbs and lettuce for some freshness and crunch. Although the dipping sauce came with some peanuts and carrot to mix through which is a nice touch. The bahn mi itself was just average. Good amount of butter and pate, and the pickle on the carrot and diakon was good (the diakon was large baton) which gave really good flavour. The chilli had a nice hot but there certainly could have been more it the roll. The pork itself lacked flavour and there wasn't a lot of crackling in the roll either. It was topped with crispy onions which is different but added something nice. The bread was the most disappointing part. It was soft and dense, not light, airy, and crumbly like it should be. Service was great. The place was busy and they pump out the orders quickly. I will be back to try again, I just hope they can do a bit...
