MAD BENJI — Restaurant in Melbourne

3 years ago I gave MB-Berwick 5 stars. Wow, they have been so disappointing in their food and customer service lately. Over the past two months, our last two orders have had issues with the quality of the food items cooked and customer service and/or timing. Whilst we waited for our take-away order to be filled, and in receipt of the the hot components, the chips became soggy and burgers cold as they had forgotten to make our drinks! On the second occasion, informed to be at the café at a certain time to collect the food and when we got there, they had forgotten our order and had not commenced making it! This time, we were given our drinks, which quickly became warm [smoothie] or cold [coffee], whilst we waited for the hot food items! If they were busy, this could be forgiven, but they were quiet - for both take away orders and in store dining. As to the food, the patties were either overcooked and rubbery or bland and tasteless; bacon was tough; the lettuce wilted too much and mayo flavourless. The components in the burgers, appeared to be put together in a hurry with no love or care. I live about 2 minutes from this new establishment I'm a big burger fan, I've been meaning to try this place since it opened and I watched them renovate this place into I beautiful burger shop but trying something new for dinner can be scary thought so it took me some time to get around to trying it out. Tonight while at Coles I looked over and if you've ever been to this place you would know how well it stands out so i thought yeah I'll give 'em a go. So me and my wife went over and placed our order. I was very impressed with how the place looks its beautiful. Anyway half an hour went passed and my wife said it better be the best burger I've ever had, 50 minutes went past and hooray we got our Berger and chips on the drive home I said I hope it was worth the wait after the first bite I realized it was worth the wait and it was the best burger my wife has ever had. There is no way you can rush perfection witch is exactly what the Berger I had tonight was. I was so impressed by the Burger and so glad it's only down the road. We have often had lunch at this venue, this time went in for dinner, was not that busy, ordered food and drinks, we got 3 of the 4 drinks, asked a while later about the 4th and told "yes I know". Food came out, the burgers were overcooked, dried out meat patties. Chips were average, one large serve was ok, not super hot or crisp but ok, the second large serve was extremely average, a lot of dark coloured chips that were soft, either sat around for ages waiting on the rest of the food, or just poor quality potatoes. The calamari was ok, but no sauce and no tartare sauce available which is what you would expect to be served with fried calamari!

Complaining about the chips had one of the cooks come out to ask what was wrong with them, telling us they come out of the same fryer, the attitude was not service orientated and we left the chips on the table. When you want to charge someone $10 for what is not all that large a serve of basic chips, at least cook them perfect and offer quality ingredients. As for cooking a burger patty, it should never be dried out!
