A little Vietnamese cafe opened up on Beach st Frankston whilst Melbourne was in the grip of the the Covid19 Pandemic. A difficult proposition in uncertain and trying times but Madam Mekong got through the lockdowns and are still proudly serving up their authentic homemade Vietnamese food, thanks in part to the freindly and welcoming staff and delicious food.
Madam Mekongs menu is short and sweet and is a great introduction to the uninitiated just as it is a great representation of old favourites.
Most days I'll have the fantastic Rice Paper Rolls for lunch. They have Chargrilled Chicken, Lemongrass Pork or the Mushroom and Tofu rolls for $8.00 for two rolls. The Chargrilled Chicken is sublime!
They also have their own twist of the famous Banh Mi Vietnamese Pork Roll. Its very unique , very generous and very tasty.
They also do Rice and Noodle dishes in either Lemongrass Pork, Satay Chicken or Tofu and Mushroom. The Lemongrass Pork Rice is my favourite, although the Vietnamese Sausage and Rice was a taste sensation, but that was only a special they were running one night!
The other famous Vietnamese dish that they do is Phò, which comes in Beef , chicken or Veggie.
My absolute favourite is the Salt and Pepper Squid. Its just a taste bomb that goes off in my mouth the moment I take a bite! The freshness of the squid, crunch of the batter, seasoned perfectly and combined with that smooth Tom Yum...
Read moreMy mind just exploded. I never ever have bothered to write a bad review. Ever. But the rudeness and pompousness of the girl working here today warrants it. I came in and asked for a Bahn mi, and they were out. She said you can have a rice paper roll cos they are same thing. Genuinely confused by the statement I replied ‘no they’re not’, to which she said ‘yeah well I work here so I’d know that they are’. The texture of the two are fundamentally different. The eating experience is fundamentally different. It’s an affront to the nuances of the incredible gift to the world Vietnamese food is. Her claim was ‘the same stuff is inside both’. Wow. So if I wrap a sausage in rice paper it’s a hot dog? I mean if it weren’t for her arrogant attitude I’d have just laughed it off, but the combo of that and the absurd claim has me venting here. There’s a lot of great places around to get beautiful Bahn mi where you don’t have to be condescended. I won’t...
Read moreAbsolutely obsessed with this place! Very good quality and not overly expensive. Definitely worth spending your money here without feeling ripped off. The food is always fresh. I have dietary requirements due to allergies and this place has such a diet friendly menu. The vegetable spring rolls are so yum! I actually can't believe they are gluten free. The rice paper rolls are beyond delicious, the chargrilled chicken, lemon grass pork and lemon grass beef are my favourites, along with the satay chicken and rice bowl. I've ordered a lot of other stuff from the menu also like the crispy chicken, dumplings, boa buns and Vietnamese roll for my family and they always say it's delicious. The service is also always friendly...
