Ahhh... a girl with beautiful eyes has a profound effect on a mans ability to rate. However, having rated this place highly 6 months ago sadly, today the rating goes south big time.
It was a toss up between this place (as per usual) and Falafel kitchen in St Kilda (who provide more falafel).
Checked Goggle for closing time and decided to head to Mama's. Ordered the falafel plate from the girl with the deadly eyes, paid, and then she tells me I've got to take away as they are closed going forward!
Seeing the battle for decision playing out on my face she allows me to stay while they clean the store. So I fill my plate and proceed to eat. OMG...All three girls get busy cleaning, staring at my plate progress and continually changing the music. With a quarter of a plate to go bang. On goes the hard trance.
Upon leaving with a pain in my belly and substantial indigestion I point out to one of the girls that it states they close 430pm not 4pm. She quickly refers to the hours of operation on the door but I pointed out that's no good to me as I was coming from Boronia.
As she didn't seem to care and I didn't feel confident she would pass this onto the owners I thought it best...

Mama Falafel delivers the typical plates, wraps, and salada with fresh pita bread and well-cooked meats/falafel. Unfortuantly, the amount of meat given is restrictive, though this may be outweighed by the salad bar.
Ordering a plate means you can add a range of dips, salads, and sides to your meat from their open bar. The bad news is you'll be verbally abused for taking a bit more than average or if you try to share a meal (really?). Staff are quite rude to customers and to eachother, yelling and being dismissive. The salad bar is also open to flies, dirt, sneezing, etc to contaminate, which is worrisome.
The falafel they serve here is some of the best around. It's homemade, tasty, and crunchy. The fresh dips and amazingly crisp fries are fantastic on the side. Snacking on these cheap deals in their quiet courtyard out back puts you away from the poor service out front.
Overall, Mama Falafel is good for a quick, inexpensive meal. Just make sure to smile because the staff will not...

✨Best falafels we had in Melbourne. You have to try them! ❤️ Most falafels we ate around Melbourne tend to be on the dry side and quite dense and heavy. Mama’s falafels are moist, airy and have a light crunchy texture. 🧆 Our pockets were delicious. The pita pocket was fresh, great quality pickles and sauces. The Israeli and tabouli salads were fresh and seasoned. Also loved the addition of the chilli. A well balanced pita pocket.
The hot dog was ok. The ratio of bun to dog were off - the bun was too big for the dog or the dog was too little for the bun… 🤔 The highlight were the pickles and the sauce.
