McDonald's Balwyn — Restaurant in Melbourne

Visited this store on Monday 18th December around 12 noon for lunch. Have been visiting this McDonald store every so often over the years as it is close to my home.

Historically the store operated ok from my perspectives (with the usual shortcomings and strengths outlined in previous reviews by other customers).... however I had to leave a review today as I had an unpleasant experience.

Ordered 1 x double quarter pounder set with other items (see attached receipt).

When it came out I had a bite of the double quarter pounder burger and it felt not right. When I looked inside the burger it is different beef patties. (See attached picture). Having had double quarter pounder burgers in various Macca's over last 20+ years..pretty sure it is not quarter pounder beef patty, which is thicker and juicier (more oily to certain extent). The beef patties in this burger is identical to the ones used on big Mac, which I have consumed my fair share over the years.

When I approached the counter to question the store manager (?), I was told this is quarter pounder beef patty, for the last 3 years it has always been this beef patty...

Now I am thinking, could it be:

I am mistaken and what I had over the years in various Macca's stores was in fact, thin, lean beef patties called quarter pounders.

Macca's have decided to reduce the beef patty size and texture, and still call it quarter pounder burger.

I had a very disappointing experience at McDonald’s Balwyn today around 2:30 PM. I went through the drive-thru to order two Happy Meals , a simple order, with no cars behind me , but was treated extremely rudely by the male manager on duty.

While placing my order through the speaker, he repeatedly said things like “Oh my god” and “Oh my gosh,” clearly rushing me for no reason. At first, I thought maybe he couldn’t hear me clearly due to the rain. But when I arrived at the next window to pay, his attitude remained the same — rude, dismissive, and disrespectful, even face to face.

After collecting my order, I calmly told him that his attitude toward customers was unacceptable. I reminded him that I was paying for the food, not asking for a favor. His response was shocking: “I’m just like this.” When I told him I would be filing a complaint, he arrogantly replied, “I’m the manager, what can you do? Are you going to report me to the government?”

As a local resident who has visited this Balwyn branch many times over the years, I’ve never had an issue until now. It’s upsetting to see someone with such a poor attitude in a leadership role at one of the busiest McDonald’s locations in the area. I sincerely hope McDonald’s takes this feedback seriously and reconsiders who is representing their brand at the front line.

Waited 20 minutes in the drive thru stuck behind a queue of cars. Waited an additional 10 minutes at the intercom where there was nobody on the other end. Would have at least been nice for them to say anything at all. Decided to park my car and go inside. I only saw one grumpy guy in Grey and one person in the kitchen. Came here for a McFlurry but the ice cream machine was broken so just decided to get fries and waited an additional 15 minutes for it. Owner/manager needs to do a better job of staffing as there was little to nobody working I could have walked over and served myself pretty ridiculous.

Update: I came back here reluctantly as it was on the way home. I went through the drive thru, paid for my meal and while I was waiting to get my food they told me the payment didn’t go through and I had to circle back and wait in line at the drive thru again and pay. When it didn’t work again I was told to go inside and try. Had to wait in line again this time inside and finally when I tried to pay it didn’t work. Manager told me systems are down and nothing she could do about it after I waited all that time and went through all that effort which was like half an hour . This is easily the worst McDonald’s ive ever been to in my life, avoid...
