This place is probably one of the best AYCE KBBQs I've been to!
The quality of the meat that they offer is incredibly good, and a lot of their side dishes, salads, and sushi are also super tasty and fresh, which surprised me a lot considering they're usually pretty average at other AYCE locations. I thought their seasonal dumplings were going to be quite generic, but they were really tasty! Honestly, even tastier than some dumpling places I've been to. The sushi quality is much better than other AYCE sushi, actually tasting fresh, and the fried stuff is as good as fried stuff can be when left out, I guess. I've never been impressed by fried food at buffets.
The highlight is really the meats that are on offer, and if you can work your way around a grill and know how to cook your meats, it's heaven. The wagyu oyster blade cut was absolutely melt in your mouth perfection, and the pork belly was great quality and rendered beautifully. All the marinaded meat was also delicious, and they had all the appetisers/small plates to go with so that you could load up on your fill. It was honestly really impressive.
The seating is spacious with seats containing bag storage, and staff are attentive to change out your grill when required.
This place does a ton right, and I'm not shocked at its popularity now that I've eaten here. We came at 5.15 pm and there were already a ton of people arriving for their 5.30 pm opening -- and this was on a random Tuesday night! The place was filled up by 6.30 pm.
The price tag really is worth it. It should be noted that drinks are not included, and the corn/green tea that is included is insanely watered down that it just tastes like water, and the dessert offerings are pretty grim... but that's not really what anyone is here for, and goodness, the offerings for mains is insane. There's also DIY army stew and DIY tteokbokki on offer, however we were so fixated on KBBQ that we didn't give it a...
Read moreI'm going to be completely honest...the quality of this buffet is TERRIBLE. I'm going to get straight to the nitty gritty, here are the pros and cons:
PROS: Bimbimyeon (cold noodles) was great, really flavourful, 8/10. Garlic, although difficult to find at first (kept with the army stew area), was fresh and delicious, 10/10. Water, can't go wrong with water, nice and cold, 10/10.
CONS: Cold buffet food, like it was barely warm. Really disappointing. Also, tiny selection. Meat selection was okay, but the turnaround to replace the meat was way too slow. At times, waiting up to 10+ minutes. The meat quality was low, compared to other buffet bbq places I've been to, this would be one of the worst places I've been to. The price you pay is not worth it. I know it's bog standard, most places 50 bucks each, but no, I didn't want to pay more than 25 for this place. -The sushi selection was poor, I don't recommend it at all. Please save yourselves Fresh fruit selection was just watermelon, bland and yeah, not good. Dessert selection was okay. They had a chocolate fondue area, but it was constantly crowded by kids, who just stand there, sometimes for 5-10 minutes with their skewers eating away. Coconut Sago with fruit was more like Coconut milk with a tiny amount of sago and canned fruit you'd use in a fruit punch bowl. There was one server, who was just, I don't know, she didn't look like she wanted to be there. She bumped into me twice, the first time without an apology, the second time giving me a stare as if it were my fault. Made the experience all the better!!!
Look, as an overall, if you want to pay 50 dollars for a buffet dinner, don't come here. My con list could go on and on, but it's just not...
Read moreOverall a great experience, staff are attentive and the venue allows for 2 hour dinner seating - compared to 90 minutes as with most other places - so you don't feel as rushed/pressured to eat your worth. Pretty cool that you can cook your own stew at your table as well. Venue is spacious but noisy, as expected. However, I've yet to find a perfect KBBQ place (and I've eaten at a LOT KBBQ) and do think there are still some aspects that can be made better. I hope you find the feedback constructive and will continue to improve!
1.) Firstly, I appreciate that there is some sushi provided but I would also prefer a sashimi option as well so that we aren't forced to eat rice if we just want some pieces of salmon or tuna fish. A few other KBBQ places I've been to offer sashimi, so I know this is doable.
2.) When it comes to the free tea (corn tea, strawberry tea) - I have noticed that the water is always being topped up through the night but no additional teabags are used; as a result, the tea becomes diluted and mostly tastes like water after the first hour. Please don't be stingy with your teabags! MOOHAN KBBQ in Box Hill literally gives you your own individual teabags and hot water so you can make fresh, hot tea freely. I doubt they cost much more to add even a couple more bags in as the night progresses.
3.) Dessert section is lacking. Of all the KBBQ places I've had free dessert, it's probably one of the worst here. I've visited KBBQ placed which had their own soft serve ice cream machines, bingsu machines, shaved ice and toppings, and even desserts such as panna cotta. I never feel fully satisfied after my main meal here because dessert is...
