Has anyone been to @meatworksco in south melbourne ? I literally stumbled upon this place because I took a wrong turn going to an appointment otherwise I wouldn’t have even known that it exists! That’s my bad cos the food was so yummy!
We ordered the oysters (yum and very well priced 12 for $35), chicken wings (not sure why there are two random carrots in it 😂), the Meatworks platter which is obviously the pièce de résistance - so many different kinds of meats… they are all pretty delicious, but the highlight is the chicken drumstick (smoked), sausages and their pork ribs.
There are some small disappointments though if I had to be brutally honest- the platter, while delicious, was missing something to cut through the richness of the meat. And now that I thought about it, I think they were supposed to be served with pickles… but they must have forgotten it 😢. Thank goodness I did order the cabbage salad w capers, which really helped.
The other small disappointment was the fries wasn’t hot- how I was longing for freshly cooked fries!
Lastly, I am not sure whether it was a very busy night or whether they were short staffed but the tables were not cleared, the bottle of Ajax is left in the middle shared table, water are not refilled. Small things but it all make an impression, a not so good one at that, although the service was friendly enough.
That being said the meat was so good I reckon we will be back again soon- hopefully for a...
Read moreWalked in and got a seat at the long communal table with a QR code to view the menu and place an order. Had the following from the menu:
Philly cheesesteak slider; warm toasted potato bun which was very soft. There was a lot of melted gooey cheese and the diced wagyu brisket was tender. Very tasty but needed a bit more meat. Small meat platter; beef brisket and pulled pork were tender but not soft and juicy. Sausages were snappy with some spice and peppery taste. Pork ribs had two bones but really only enough meat for one. Best part of the platter was the chicken drumsticks; soft and moist with a nice spicy flavour. However the pork belly was overcooked; very dry and a lot of chewing. The sauces were alright, wasn't particularly outstanding. Beef ribs; ordered this separately as it was not included in the meat platter. Meat was tender and fatty, very tasty with the sweet glaze. Fat chips; perfectly cooked with a crispy layer and packed with fluffy potato. Lightly salted and goes well with the garlic mayo dip
Overall a decent meat feast. Not sure if it's worth getting the platter as it cost similar and you might get more ordering each meat separately. Recommend the Philly cheesesteak slider if you like a lot of cheese, fat chips which were amazing, chicken drumsticks...
Read moreFirst time visiting this establishment. We were seated in a dark corner that was very hard to see anything really! The lighting was very poor. Most of the other tables were not too bad. Anyway, we ordered a large Meat platter from the menu. We asked the waitress on whether it would be enough for 4-5 people to share, as it didn't state the quantity of food only a description of what's in it. We were assured it would be fine. Unfortunately there were no chips available on the menu or the platter. So we ordered the platter anyway, with a side of potatoes and a salad. We were fairly disappointed with the size of the platter, when it first arrived! I've been to plenty of American BBQ places in Melbourne and have ordered platters this size for 2 people only, not 4-5 people that we were told. No problems with the quality and taste, it was well cooked and came out in a reasonable time, but for the price of around $190, including a public holiday surcharge, value it was not. Unfortunately we left fairly hungry and ended up at McDonald's later on. I'm sure it's a popular place to eat at, but I won't be...
