Mi Gente — Restaurant in Melbourne

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in Australia.

As a Spanish person, it saddens me to say that my visit to this place was truly disappointing. I went out for a meal with some Colombian friends who were already familiar with the venue, and at first, everything seemed fine. However, everything changed when a large group of guests arrived.

Since there was no room for them inside, they chose to wait indoors instead of sitting at the available outdoor tables. At that point, a waitress—rude and completely lacking in tact—began cleaning our table without even asking if we had finished, if we needed anything else, or how the meal had been. It was clear that her only concern was for us to leave and free up the table.

When she noticed I was upset by her lack of courtesy, she simply said we could stay and move the table to make room for the other guests—something that made little sense and did not address the poor treatment we had already received.

Of course, we left and I will never return or recommend this place. It was shameful, embarrassing, and showed a complete lack of professionalism. If they knew a large group was coming, the very least they could have done was make a reservation, mark the table in advance, or simply inform us beforehand. The experience was extremely disappointing—especially in a country where good service is...

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Mi Gente, and it was absolutely fantastic. The highlight of the meal was their perfectly thin crispy patacón (fried plantain) served with perico eggs and halloumi cheese which made every bite a delight. The empanadas were equally impressive — golden, flaky, and generously filled with savory goodness.

What truly set this place apart was the warm and welcoming service. From the moment we walked in, Eva made us feel like family, ensuring every detail of the experience was perfect. The chef Cristian even came out personally to ask if he could add chives to our daughter’s order of eggs, a thoughtful touch that showed how much they care about their guests’ preferences.

If you're looking for an authentic Colombian breakfast with flavors that transport you straight to the heart of Colombia, this is the place to go. Highly recommended for both the food and the hospitality!
