We chose Mornington Thai for a family dinner, enticed by the numerous positive reviews we had seen. Expecting a delightful dining experience, we were instead met with a series of disappointments. The staff, especially a very sweet young waitress who seemed to be around 16-17 years old, were the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal experience.
The quality of the food was underwhelming, particularly the seafood dishes. We ordered a variety of dishes, with a focus on prawns, only to find them dry and lacking in flavor. This was a letdown, considering the promising reviews we had read.
The situation worsened considerably towards the end of our meal. The owner approached our table in a passive-aggressive manner, questioning my enjoyment of the seafood dish. She then unexpectedly informed me of an additional $15 charge on top of the already pricey $35 dish. This was both confusing and unjustified.
The most distressing part of the evening was witnessing the owner publicly berate the young waitress in front of all the patrons. This display of unprofessionalism was shocking and completely uncalled for. The owner's decision to pass the additional charge onto the young waitress was not only unfair but also deeply concerning from an ethical standpoint.
The experience at Mornington Thai was a stark contrast to the glowing reviews that had initially drawn us in. The owner's behavior was appalling and overshadowed any potential positives. I would give negative stars if possible, as the evening was marred by poor culinary quality and, more significantly, by the unacceptable treatment of staff and...

I decided to try Mornington Thai Restaurant based on the amazing reviews on Google, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t match the hype.
I ordered the seafood Tom Yum soup (small) for $16.90 and the Pad Thai chicken for $26.90. When the Tom Yum arrived, I was shocked at how tiny the portion was—it was literally the size of the palm of my hand. I understand it was a small size, but at that price, it felt severely overpriced compared to other Thai restaurants.
The Pad Thai was nicely presented but lacked authenticity. It leaned heavily on sweetness but had no heat or depth of flavor that you’d expect from real Thai street food. For $26.90, I also didn’t feel it was good value for money. I had read reviews claiming this restaurant uses all real Thai ingredients and is one of the best Thai spots in Victoria, but in my honest opinion, that’s far from the truth.
There is a 3% charge for card payments.
I do want to mention that the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes writing this review difficult. However, I feel the need to share my experience so others don’t go in with the same high expectations I had. To top it off, I experienced an upset stomach about 30 minutes after finishing my meal, which was disappointing.
While the service was lovely, the food quality, portion sizes, and pricing didn’t live up to what was described in...
Read moreWow! I went here a couple of years ago and to be honest it wasn't that great and experience, so I was put off going back. Having read the recent reviews I thought I would give it another try. Something has changed as this is a fantastic little thai cafe style restaurant.
We nearly always order the same thing when doing thai takeout and that's a Pad Gra Prow and a Curry of varying colours. That's a bit boring I know, but at least I've tried enough of these dishes to spot the good ones!
The flavours are genuinely thai and they don't ask if you want hot or mild versions which I hate. A thai meal should be served as is supposed to be served and if that's a traditionally spicy dish then that's the way it should stay. This place certainly delivers on that! The chicken and beef was tender and was balanced with lot's of very fresh vegetables in each dish.
Highly recommended and my new go to place for Thai in Mornington.
Picture is of a Yellow Curry Chicken and the Pale Ale was taken at home. They don't have a liquor licence, but you may be able to do BYO.
Oh and the veg spring rolls were also...
