Napier Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

Usually love this pub, although have not dined there in a while. We were a party of 10 with lots to celebrate so we ordered a bottle of French Champagne. The waitress began to pour from the bottle and saw that it was a sparkling red. She stopped pouring straight away and asked if that was what we had ordered. We then confirmed we did not order sparkling red wine and she left our table to go speak to someone. Then a manager came out with the bottle of sparkling red and said to the person who ordered “it’s a $150 bottle of wine, what do you want me to do with it”. This server then sat down next to us and said “are you sure you didn’t order the Rochford, to which we replied “no, we ordered French champagne”. The server then said “well the other waitress said you definitely ordered this” to which we replied “we did not order this”. Eventually as a group we decided it was easier to just drink the bottle. There was NO apology from any staff for stuffing the order up and ruining that moment. I thought maybe they would have gone out of their way to compensate in some other way. But nothing. Extremely rude to sit down and blame the customer for a $150 mistake a server made. If you want to be treated with disrespect and snobbery then come to this pub. Will never be dining there...

Everyone was so inviting and warm. I wanted to bring a couple of my friends from Qld to a true Melbournian pub style feast/experience and I was not disappointed! The food was delicious and very generous in size. It was quick and all the staff was very attentive. Thanks for giving my friends such a lovely experience in Fitzroy. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was fresh, well seasoned and an awesome side of fries 🍟 Don't ever underestimate the quality of chips that come with a Parma! Can make or break the dish in my opinion!

My friends ordered the beef and Southern fried chicken burgers respectively and they both found them delicious! They even made comments on how tasty their lemon lime and bitters drinks were too!

It's these types of establishments that give Melbourne its awesome reputation of being the foot capital of Australia and clearly a testimony to how long the Napier has...

I’ve come to this pub for years purely for the Kangaroo Parma and I can’t recommend it higher. Where do I start, the chicken is phenomenal, not to thick or thin, crispy. The sauce and cheese is nailed to perfection (quality and quantity) and the roo (that replaces the ham) is absolutely off it’s head. Tasty and juicy, not too gamey as you’d expect. The chip and salad amount are also plentiful and tasty. When ever my miso doesn’t get the roo Parma with me, she is often highly satisfied with the roo salad or one of their specials. The bar is cool, the crew working there are also really nice (always see the same workers there, they are always happy and although irrelevant it’s also cool that 2 of the blokes are also callee Guy) Anyways I’ve moved down the coast but when ever I am staying in town I come for my fix.
