The Rainbow Hotel is a real gem of a pub.
I come here regularly for Tuesday trivia, hosted by Saj, who runs a fantastic night. The questions are a great balance of challenging but not impossible, with plenty of variety. I especially love that the bonus questions are for a beer or wine instead of just extra points — a small touch that makes the night even more fun.
The vibe is cosy and welcoming. Inside you’ll find quirky nic-nacky décor with old music posters, while outside the beer garden has heaters to keep things comfortable in winter. Dogs are welcome in the courtyard too, which makes it even more inviting. There’s also a small board game library if you want to hang around after your meal or trivia.
The food is consistently great. The burger is juicy and lifted by a tasty house burger sauce, served with crisp shoestring fries. The parma is massive and satisfying, and the popcorn chicken with aioli and buffalo sauce is addictive. Everything I’ve tried has been proper pub food done really well.
Parking can be a little tricky, as nearby one-way streets switch to permit zones after 7pm, so plan ahead if you’re driving.
Between the food, the cosy atmosphere, the dog-friendly courtyard, and Saj’s excellent trivia nights, the Rainbow Hotel has become one of my favourite places to...
Read moreI don't understand why this place is always so busy, the food is overpriced and Terrible. This is not based on only one experience but repeat offences. Ate here a few months ago and after paying nearly $30 for a steak it was served overdone and cold (go figure how you manage that one). Chips were almost stone cold. I sent it back which made my group's experience uncomfortable (why are people so afraid to send terrible food back? when you pay $30 for a steak it should at least be freshly cooked!). Tonight was no different. Paid $22 for a chicken Parma that came out BLACK. I was so hungry I couldn't handle sending it back and waiting again for one of their mediocre offerings, so I scraped off the blackness and made do. Worst Parma I've ever eaten. Not sure if they had the work experience kitchen staff on or what but if you burn something to the point of charcoal, that is not worthy of serving. Disgusting. The staff at the bar need to pull the poles out of their bums, never before have I been served with such disdainful attitude. I will never be back.I suggest you avoid...
Read moreI recently attended the Wednesday Steak Night at The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy and was thoroughly impressed. For just $25, I enjoyed a 250g 1824 rare breed porterhouse steak cooked to perfection, accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and a generous serving of roasted market vegetables. I opted for an extra sauce for a little bit extra
The pub itself exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a charming beer garden and live music that adds to the overall experience. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish.
In addition to the steak special, The Rainbow Hotel offers a Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm, featuring $5 pots and $10 pints of Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, making it an even more attractive option for mid-week dining.
Overall, The Rainbow Hotel's Steak Night offers exceptional value without compromising on quality or ambiance. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a satisfying meal in a relaxed and...
