Ive had some amazing and authentic Thai food in Melbourne, but unfortunately, not from here. I spent $100 on 5 dishes, but sad to say, I didn't enjoy a single one. Being Thai, born and raised, I know how Thai food is supposed to taste. This is very far from it. The laab (ลาบ) was sweet, bland, not sour at all. It did not even have ground glutinous rice. It also had a lettuce leaf. Which is never placed with laab. Duck curry. The worst I've ever had. Flavourless bland. Not rich. It's like they used coconut milk instead of coconut cream. Doesn't taste like they used palm sugar either. Pad Thai was dry, chewy and flavourless. Tamarind sauce was not used. A warm chewy, pork flavoured dessert. The other dishes I'd rather not speak of. I've made hundreds of Thai dishes Bangkok in my life time, and this appears as though they've just chosen the cheapest ingredients to appeal to the western palate. Or, the chef is not Thai and has no pride cooking...
Read moreAh Nine Elephants. When I used to work around the corner from here we would order this every single night at about 8pm whenever we were still in the office. It literally nearly turned me off Thai food because I started to associate it with not having a life. Now that I am employed elsewhere and no longer regularly charging copious amounts of take away to the Amex I can appreciate Nine Elephants for all it's deliciousness without any negative connotations. Reasonable prices, authentic flavours and an enjoyable ambiance. The Gai hom pah is sensational. Nothing turns me on like a delicious satay sauce and this housemade rendition is a killer. The pad Thai is also a winner here with the noodles the ideal texture and the sauce both sweet and citrusy at the same time, a perfect balance and ideal use of our potent friend fish sauce which can quickly overpower this classic dish. Well worth travelling to the Windy City of...
Read moreWent to Nine Elephant for lunch. We ordered Crispy Pork Salad, Red Duck Curry & Pineapple Fried Rice. If you have to choose one dish, I would definitely recommend the Crispy Pork Salad. The salad sauce is very very tasty & the pork is very crispy! The Pineapple fried rice & Duck Red Curry were really good too. For desert, we decided to order the Banana Fritters as the picture looks enticing & Rainbow Rice Ball (though the picture for this is not as enticing as the one for the Banana Fritters 🙃). We were actually surprised! The rainbow rice ball is actually very very yummm. We love this one even better than the banana fritters. If you are planning to eat here best to book a table to avoid disapointment 😊. Table service was reasonably fast too considering it is duch a busy restaurant and there’s only two people managing...
