I’m always dubious when someone mentions an ā€œall you can eatā€ restaurant. Does the quality suffer or are the quantities completely ā€˜bite-sized’. Well, when my good friend, DM, mentioned this Japanese place, I thought sure, why not. And what started as a cautious foray turned into a wild adventure! Consumed: A Whole Lot Of Food Drank: Water. Cause… why would you dampen your taste with anything else? TDT: 4.5/5.0 Based in Wantirna, I didn’t really think much of this location. Heck, I couldn’t even find this place directly on Zomato and had to do a Google search to then find the link back to it. Though in getting there, not only was there ample of parking, but the place was PACKED! It had me salivating. Could this actually hold up to it’s potential or would it let me down? Food We decided to do the ā€œall you can eatā€ menu… because… why not. One thing to note – if you waste any food, you will be charged extra. And it’s done on a per 100g basis. So the last thing you want to do is waste any food. We started with Chawan Mushi – steamed savoury egg custard with chicken and soy bean. It was interesting and the sensation in the mouth was completely different too. The Octopus Balls were awesome – a highlight to be honest. Of course, this came out a little cold because I think the Chawan Mushi takes 15-20 minutes to create so this could have caused it to cool whilst they served it in pairs. The second time we ordered it however, it came out steaming. And it tasted so so so much better. The Sushi and Sashimi Platter didn’t match what the menu showed. Luckily, the delicious taste made up for it! It tasted fresh and fluffly. It was a good entry and my ā€œbite-sizedā€ fears were alleviated. The Prawn Gyoza was another good entry. I liked how juicy it was on the inside. The Miso Steak – this was hands down the best one on the menu. The beef was tender and the flavour just burst in your mouth! The Ika Spicy Miso Yaki – grilled squid in spicy miso sauce was a little tough to separate but the flavours and meat were delicious. And the kick was worth it. Throw in some extra wasabi and your nose would be grateful to you! The Seafood Tempura was ok in my opinion. To be honest, I would say that you could give this a miss and not actually miss out on anything. The Sushi Roll Platter was also smaller than expected but it was just as good as the Sushi and Sashimi Platter. The Teriyaki Chicken steak was good too. The Chicken Katsume was awesome too!! The Green Tea ice cream was just… waaay too much for me. But the Black Sesame ice-cream was on point! And whilst they only serve one scoop of ice cream per person, if you know what your other compatriots like then you could potentially order more for the other person. 2.0/2.0 Cost 29.80 per person. Yeah, that’s it! And all you can eat. Delicious, adventurous and fun! 1.0/1.0 Ambiance The atmosphere was great and is definitely one that you can bring a family too. Also a good place for a bunch of friends to come too as well! Although if you’re expecting this to be a quiet date night spot, you are sadly mistaken.okami-wantirna-17okami-wantirna-18 .75/1.0 Service The guy that was serving us, probably cause it was getting to the end of the night was a little curt, but the ladies there were absolutely awesome, attentive and happy to make suggestions! .75/1.0 TDT: 4.5/5.0. Look I don’t know why the other people rated down the line. I enjoyed it and I believe that it was a worthy entry.

I don’t recommend coming here if you want any kind of quality food. I remember a few years ago Okami was still $29.80 per person and the quality was still okay, but at that time I haven’t been to stores other than Hampton and Caulfield. I think this is a franchise one, which might explain the differences in quality. I understand that with COVID and general inflation it’s normal for prices to go up, but at $36.80 per person the standard of food leaves more to be desired. We were there for the 5pm sitting and pretty much everything tasted pre-prepared and lukewarm or cold (yes, even the dishes that were meant to be hot). The only passable ones were probably the beef carpaccio (albeit sliced super thin), squid and mushroom salad, and yaki udon. Even the miso soup was way too salty and we had to add hot water to dilute it. Overall, I’d rather pay a bit more to have better food elsewhere.

I love, love, love the concept of ā€˜eat as much as you can’ for a set price. Really allows you to pick and choose and try a few different dishes. Overall, the food was very tasty. I had one dish that I didn’t order and arrived at the table and wasn’t suited to my taste buds. It would be awesome to see little flags with names on the dishes as I just couldn’t remember everything we ordered, especially if this is not your daily genre. One small thing that I noticed was the chairs are very comfortable, but very low to the ground and when you’re 6 feet tall, getting down and back up, without joint issues, was not that easy. Great vibes and felt like a family restaurant. Very popular. I love Sushi! I would definitely recommend.

We waited over an hour for sushi. At that point, one of the people eating with us had to leave so she had to scoff her sushi down despite being seated for about an hour and a half. We asked if we could get takeaway container for her as she had to go and the food took so long, which they gave. The rest of us stayed and ate. We thought this was fair given how poor the service was - We appreciate takeaway containers are not usually allowed at an all you can eat restaurant.

But then a staff member came back and explained quite rudely that they don't usually do containers- We explained that we know that but the food took well over an hour to come. The staff member made an excuse of it being busy which we understood. If you're going to be open on public holidays, charge the public holiday surcharge of 15% then you should probably make sure you have adequate service to accommodate the public holiday crowd too.

The sushi was the the best and only good part on the menu that I tried (though it was kind of bland). The tempura was oily and bland, the spring rolls were generic, the chicken karaage was decent enough. The curry chicken katsu sauce was like water, extremely watered down. The takoyaki balls were just warm when they should be piping hot. I suspect they were not made fresh (not surprised there). They were kind of gross to bite into warmish creamy octopus.

I don't think I'll be going again unfortunately- I was very keen to try this place after everyone talking about it but I'm left feeling ripped off and disappointed. I'm not wishing this place to go into administration, and I hope this was just a one off bad experience, bit I'm certainly not surprised that some of these restauranrs have...

I attended this restaurant with my Son and his family. we arrived and were shown to an upstairs room and then to our table. We selected our initial drinks then another waiter appeared and took our orders for our initial meals. We sat and waited patiently for 5, then 10 minutes and 15 minutes. I surveyed the otheeeer tables andd noted that food was being delivered at quite regular intervals, whilst we sat waiting. Eventually, a waiter appeared and delivered ONE dish of the 7 or 8 that we had initially ordered and continued onto other tables. This process continued for another half hour or so, with one dish at a time arriving. At one stage, we asked what had happened to the initial dish that had ordered and were told that, yes, it was ordered but is still to arrive. By now, we were reordering our second round of dishes, and whilst they arrived slowly, the initial dish was still to come until at least a hour and a quarter after we initially ordered it, along with a flurry of other dishes. Considering we were on a two limit between sittings, the meal then became a little rushed as we were running out of time with our sitting. I was not impressed, even thought the other members of the party seemed non-plussed. I won't be...
