If you're looking for a nice place to stop in for coffee and a little bit of friendly banter with mate or two, Omar is the place for you.
It's a fresh take on Melbourne's predominately hipster coffee scene. The café itself is stripped down to the basics, with light wood boarding here, there and everywhere and the exposed structure of the building everywhere else.
Whoever they hired for their graphic design did an amazing job as their coffee bird logo is one of the best I've seen. I also highly rate how you can buy your beans in a cylinder here, just something a little different that sets them apart from the rest of the cafe culture.
The guys themselves who run the place are great and friendly to chat to. They really believe in what they're doing, which is making standout excellent coffee. It's one of my go to places when I run out of beans at home.
Food is also impressive considering the kitchen comprises of about two square metres of space. If you're going to grab a meal here, may I suggest the smashed avo, you won't be disappointed.
A must stop café for all you coffee...
Read moreToday, I went with 2 friends who each ordered ice coffees and I ordered a cafe latte in a take away cup.
The rude waiter said "we don't serve coffee to have here in take away cups."
So I said "ok I'll have it take away then." And the waiter went inside.
He comes back 5 minutes later - with a latte in a cup in one hand and a take away coffee cup in the other - not one word of a lie.
We were all gob smacked.
My friend went inside to tell him that we need the latte in a take away container and he said "sorry we don't serve coffee to have here in take away cups, the boss said."
We will most certainly never be returning to Omar and atrocious customer service!
What strikes us as absolutely ridiculous is they serve take away coffee all day.
Omar, do you serve all your take away customers in glassware and make them pour their own coffee into a take away cup? What the heck kind of joke is this? You need to have a talk to that waiter because I don't believe for one second the boss made a rule like that. And if he did........ I'd be even...
Read moreExpected a lot more from a cafe with such expensive equipment on display. Other people have mentioned that the coffee is very mild and does not cut through the milk, that is because they are using a very generic (and cheap) Brazilian coffee in their dark blend. When you roast yourself there is simply no excuse for being so cheap with coffee quality. Skills on the espresso machine are also not up to the level of presentation. Looks good but does not deliver on quality.
I second some of the below comments about the owner/ manager having a very high opinion of himself. My local cafe in Surrey Hills roasts their own coffee that would cost at least three times what this guys McLatte would cost and their are always friendly. (I only went to kill some time after dropping off a rental car but as a coffee roaster myself I haven't been able to shake my annoyance at...
