10 Greek Plates is a Greek restaurant located on Martin Street, Brighton. It is family owned and operated, and you are spoilt with true Greek hospitality as soon as you step through the doors. 🇬🇷 The menu has all the classics, including souvlakis and platters to share. You can order a la carte or feed me menu ($65/75), either way you will be FED, the plates are generous. 😍 ✔️ Saganaki - two different cheeses, served from the pan. Salty! ✔️ Octopus, Potatoes - like butter in your mouth, so tender. A lot of oil. ⭐️ Beetroot Salad - refreshing ⭐️ Loukouniko Sausage - I didnt expect 2, wow!! Huge, not too salty. ⭐️ Platter for One with Mixed Gyros - the chicken gyros was so tender and flavourful. Lamb also nice. We shared this! ⭐️ Portokolopita - absolutely delicious! It’s vibey no matter the day or the weather, we visited on a Wednesday night, you should definitely make a booking. Great for groups as the servings are huge. Kudos to the team for being so laid back yet attentive, as well as having charisma and personality. We loved it here so it won’t be the last time for us, we can’t wait to try more. ⭐️ 4.5/5 💸 $$

Not in a hurry to order again from 10 Greek Plates. Orderd over phone for pickup. Told I was paying cash and then was ushered outside to wait in the cold. Meanwhile the next guest picking up also paid cash but was allowed to wait inside and was handed a bottle of red, clearly a friend of the owner Bill. Literally noone was in the restaurant yet, 5.20pm. Bag was stapled shut and handed to me. I asked if it was the platter for 4 ($120) to which they said the name of the order. I felt like i was being treated like an uber driver, not a paying customer. Have ordered many times since 2020 and never seen a hair and shrivelled up plastic in our food. Really disappointing all around. The cuts of meat for lamb were quite dry. Chips were too salty so perhaps keep this in mind, and there wasn't nearly enough for 4 people. Chicken however was much nicer, but it was where we discovered the orange plastic. Tzatziki quantity was more for 2, not 4 people. We thought there was a mistake. Pick up your game team 10 Greek Plates!

The experience didn't live up to the Google rating. We went on a busy Sunday evening. You're packed in like sardines in this place, the man at the table beside us had to get up from his seat so we could make it to our table. The tables aren't exactly white table cloths, they're paper. On top of the cloth is a white paper layer, so you're dining on paper. Which feels a bit cheaper than dining on cloth. We were asked if we wanted starter (one halloumi) and mains (four gyros) to come separately, we said no we'd prefer everything at the same time. That didn't happen, 30 minutes after ordering the halloumi came. 50 minutes after ordering our gyros came. Drink service was slow. The spicy margarita wasn't large and wasn't very spicy. I ordered a glass of chardonnay and it never came, so I made sure they didn't bill us for it. We tipped and left. The gyros were okay although swamped in the chefs sauce. It was okay, I doubt I'll be back. Google ratings aren't everything!

TEN GREEK PLATES – 136 Martin Street, Brighton

So you are on the way home on a Monday evening after a very long day and you don’t feel like cooking. Naturally you find something along the way, drop in and let them do the cooking. That is how it played out a couple of weeks ago and desiring a Greek feast we stopped at Ten Greek Plates and are very glad that we did.

Being a Monday evening and early, we anticipated being able to get away without a booking. Luckily it was early because by the time we finished the place was just about full with a great vibe and energy.

Naturally we started with the mixed dips. The Tzatziki was fabulous and what you would expect from any good Greek establishment. The spicy feta was good and the star of the show was the white tarama with a beautiful subtle flavour. The pita bread was plenty warm and in generous amounts.

Next up was the special treat of saganaki. Too hard to resist some fried cheese. Ten Greek Plates serves it two ways, one made with haloumi and the other with kefalograviera cheese. Kept simple with lemon and thyme the cheeses were fried to perfect and the flavours of the kefalo absolutely perfect.

The freshly baked Spanakopita Spiral with spinach, leek, feta & ricotta filo & sesame seed is the best I have ever had and I have tried quite a few. Melt in your mouth stuff. We shared a spiral this time but I suggest next time it will be one each.

A salad of marinated beetroot, feta, seasonal leaves, walnuts & horseradish yoghurt was the perfect accompaniment to it all and provided freshness throughout the meal.

The dark setting adds to the mood of the place and the team looking after us had big smiles, were attentive and warm.

Another great local addition that is well worth a...

Made a booking for 8 and noted we had a pram in the booking request. On immediate arrival we were asked why we had a pram and hadn't advised them - even though it was in the booking request. This set the theme for the night in that our newborn would be a burden to them. Unfortunately the restaurant was fully book so there was no way to have a pram by our table without other guests having to move. The staff asked us to park the pram in the corridor in a separate area which was inappropriate as we would not leave our sleeping child unattended in a different room. My wife asked the staff if they could help us make space so we could move our pram close to our table but the staff told us to simply wait for them to help but they never came back to assist. In the end, we asked some guest to stand up and adjust their seats so we could move our pram to our table, which the guests were happy to do.

On leaving, the table arrangement of the restaurant had changed throughout the night and there was no physical way to get our pram out of the restaurant other than literally carrying it through a large window with the assistance of staff.

Ultimately we felt like a large burden to the restaurant and as new parents trying our best to have a nice dinner our we felt very uncomfortable and judged.

I would not say this is a family...
