Had dinner here tonight with my wife... We have had friends that have eaten here and read all of the reviews, so our expectations were high.... We booked on the day and our seats were moved as requested....all good so far... Beer's, wines etc were great and reasonably priced, but our ice bucket was placed on the table next to us and when they arrived it was moved to our bench seat ??? Never had this experience before.... I eventually had to re place it to our table..... All the food was really good except for the wagyu skewers which were tasty but very chewy....I don't care about how much I spend, and we only came back from Japan 5 months ago, so believe me when I say I know Izakame Wagyu beef and Kobe beef very well and these skewers were cooked to perfection but lacked both marbling and tenderness associated with Wagyu. Mains were very good. My tempura vegetables and prawns were spot on. My wife's Katsu chicken was as expected.....panko crumbed and delicious.. We had Choya plum wines to finish, but unlike Japan they didn't have a plum in them as we would have expected.... To be 100 % honest, we will return as the food was very good. However , we are regulars of Nobu and Koko so are familiar with Japanese fine dining...we have not only been to Nobu Melbourne , but also Nobu at the Four Seasons Doha , Qatar, Nobu at Atlantas Dubai and Nobu Tokyo.... And my wife has had a private dinner with Nobu Matsuhisa himself for mothers day last year...so let me say that in my opinion, the reviewer that said this is like Nobu but at half the price ....has either not really been to Nobu or is dreaming in fairy land with...
Read moreIt’s hard to please me with Japanese Cuisine and dining here has exceeded my expectations and is comparable to Nobu but 2x cheaper. I have always wanted to dine at Oushou before they opened at Knox and all of their dishes atmosphere and service has blown my mind! The ambience was so beautiful and dark lighting, perfect for a warm date night. Definitely something you wouldn’t expect at Knox.
We made a booking and they actually acknowledged me and my friend’s dietary requirements and allergens in the notes, where they allowed us to modify the dishes to suit our needs in which most restaurants surprisingly don’t read it. We decided on choosing our own dishes off the A la Carté menu and got the mango salmon bites, kingfish tataki, salmon and tuna taco, sushi and sashimi platter and the Black Miso Cod. Every single dish was a 10/10. All the seafood was soo fresh, it melted in our mouth and could tell it was such high quality fish. The combination of textures and flavours complimented each other so well, where there was nothing lacking or overpowering. The dishes came out at perfect timing and at perfect temperatures, I could not find any fault in any of the dishes. The total came to $52.50 between the two of us, however we didn’t order any drinks or desserts. We will definitely be back to try the tasting menu and also saw that they had a wagyu sukiyaki for only $24! My new...
Read moreVery nice & modern new Japanese restaurant at Knox. We entered without a booking, the restaurant looked very busy however they found a table for us. We ordered appetisers, entrees & two main meals between us, the appetisers - oysters & scallops were amazing, soft, full of flavour & so fresh, the entrees - eggplant dish & beef skewers also fresh, tender & packed with flavour. Our mains - pumpkin sushi & roast duck were again delicious, all our meals were of very high quality, the taste & presentation was on point, no complaints whatsoever.
However - not only was the wait time between each dish ridiculous, but we received each dish on its own which meant my husband & I had to eat our meals on our own, I had a dish whilst my husband waited for his dish & vice versa, we didn’t get to enjoy our meals at the same time, instead we watched each other eat.
I understand they were extremely busy but this is not how people like to go out & dine.
The staff were lovely & the service was great, but this was a turn off, they were very apologetic but that didn’t make our...
