Prego Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

My wife & I were in need of a coffee and a quick bite between a couple of appointments. Having never ventured into the Prego Cafe and in the past being disappointed with a cafe a few doors down, we stepped inside to be greeted by a busy, but delightfully pleasant owner Lorenzo! The small and comfortable seating area and a few tables outside is clean and welcoming obviously with an Italian 🇮🇹 come Spanish 🇪🇸 vibe so well worth a visit on its own merits (& I am yet to mention the coffee and snacks). We are both very fussy about coffee and Lorenzo is a master of his trade, without any hesitation my wife said to the boss , "that was honestly the best coffee I have had in months", I must add, I have taken coffee at many places in Australia over the years, & I have to agree Lorenzo makes one of the best! Our food was excellent with a shared Panini and a couple of incredible (and fresh) pastries. We chuckled as Lorenzo took each order with polite and encouraging comments to please any customer, we will most certainly be regulars from now on at the Prego Cafe, but don't tell too...

It feels a bit like a hidden gem of a place. The top-side of Main Street is renowned for being a rough go for hospitality, with all the action west of Barkley. So, I don't usually go looking for a coffee up that way. I feel that I've been missing something special, in not knowing about this place previously.

Old world charm greets you when you step inside. It's the kind of place that encourages a linger. I had a coffee and Prosciutto Filone - both quite tasty, both well worth a return visit.

Not one to write reviews, I felt compelled to for this cafe because it's the kind of place that you want to succeed so that you can keep going back and enjoying its charms for...

I ended up at this beautiful cafe today by chance and I am so grateful for it!

In the almost 4 hours I was here working, I watched the owner, Lorenzo, and his amazing staff greet every single person who walked through the doors with heartfelt words and the biggest smiles!

The chicken panini was delicious and the coffee (i had two) was absolutely spot on. I’m an unapologetic coffee snob and I know that i’ll be back here for the beautiful atmosphere Lorenzo’s created and the coffee♥️
