I have been coming here for more than 25 years so my love for Rock Kung is still strong. The atmosphere has never changed as Kingsway continues to develop around this dainty little restaurant. I guess the Boss does very well to preserve the true fengshui of the place. Early and fond memories of eating delicious succulent duck and rice with bok choy for dinner here after studying at the Glen Waverley library, this restaurant continues to deliver quality food. Now, after more than a decade of international travel and living abroad, Rock Kung remains a favorite nostalgic restaurant of mine to visit and eat at with my family every time I’m back in Melbourne. The mud crab tossed with ginger and scallions remains to be a favorite on their menu it seems, as every table around us seems to also be ordering the same. Bbq Roast Pork and Roast Duck continues to taste the same after all these years. Make sure you ask for extra sauce if you are taking away! Always pay with cash and they actually prefer that due to credit card surcharges. Dinners seem to always be packed no matter what night of week it is. The waiters and waitresses are all lovely, attend to your needs swiftly, but they are busy flying past with dishes and other duties so you gotta flag them down, like in a true Chinese restaurant. It does get a little loud, lots of large families coming to eat, hustle and bustle. Unfortunately my grandparents are quite soft spoken so hard to hear conversation around the table if the restaurant is at full capacity. Make sure you make a reservation or arrive early ;)

The food was decent, but the service was disappointing, and also left feeling like we got scammed? It felt like the older female waiters kept giving us attitude the entire time, but the older male waiter was friendly. During the dinner, they all suddenly became nicer - this was after we ordered a lobster. We were told it’s $95 for half (whatever that means), but when we got the bill it was around $350 for this lobster… as you can see from the photo it’s not a lot, I only got one piece of lobster, we had to serve it ourselves (which is different from a lot of other restaurants). Would’ve appreciated confirmation around this price before preparation, and explanation around why the prices were so inflated compared to the initial quoted market price. If you’re going to order this, I would make sure to confirm and validate the weight and cost yourself. I also would avoid ordering a la carte here unless you know exactly what you want, as you’d be pressured every minute if you don’t order soon after you sit down, even if all guests haven’t arrived. As a Chinese person myself, I guess this is what you should expect from an old school Chinese restaurant lol - decent food, but often subpar service… not sure I would come again

This is a black restaurant. We ordered a 4.25lbs of lobster. My sister is a vegetarian. So only two are eating. More than 60% of the lobster tail went missing. Two of us had three small pieces each. I confronted the lady waitress with the tail shell . Her explanation is the chef chopped the lobster to few pieces only ignoring the lobster tail shell that I put on the plate. She refused to acknowledge that they stole the lobster. I had pictures of bath bill n shell. They took the original bill that had all the details and replaced with a bill with no detail. I took a photo of the original bill before it was taken away. Tastes rubbish. I had been eating lobster when the price was about AUD$20 per lb at a Chinese restaurant along Burwood Highway at Burwood East. It was a treat from my sister. If not I will never went back as my wife reminded me that many years ago I had roast duck rice n it came out with bones n skin. No meat. So go elsewhere. After all the lobster taste is so so n below average . A honest score from me even if they did not steal is 3 from 1-10.

THANK YOU so much to all the past and present employees of Rock Kung - including chefs, kitchen hands, wait staff, cashiers, maitre'ds and managers - fron my parents, sister and I for over 30 years of both absolutely delicious Cantonese food AND fast, friendly and welcoming service both in person and over the phone, including the food amd service we received most recently yesterday on Sunday 17th August 2025 when my Dad ordered takeaway of their absolutely juicy, flavoursome and tender soy sauce chicken to bring home for our most recent regular family dinner on that day. The service over the phone and in person was so nice and friendly as always!

To all the past and present employees of Rock Kung - including chefs, kitchen hands, wait staff, cashiers, maitre'ds and managers - over the last 30+ years, I am so sorry for both how late this 5-star Google review is AND for only ever putting up a Google review now for the first time ever since the first time my parents, sister and I first became customers 30+ years ago. I have no excuse no matter how busy and hectic life has been these last 30+ years were for me.

My parents, sister and I - all if us Chinese ourselves - first moved from our home country of Malaysia to Australia in July 1990, originally living in regional Victoria until we moved to suburban Victoria in December 1990, days before our first Christmas in Australia.

To the best of my recollection, my parents, sister and I first became customers of Rock Kung in early 1991 and throughout the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, the vast majority of our Rock Kung experiences were dining in...and over the course of these last 30+ years, almost 35 to be more precise, Rock Kung's employees - including chefs, kitchen hands, wait staff, cashiers, maitre'ds and managers - have so consistently delivered truly exceptional value for money high quality Cantonese cuisine accompanied by equally stellar service.

Over the last few years, my Dad has ar least once a fortnight gotten takeaway from Rock Kung to take home, usually soy chicken or char siu BBQ pork or both, and it always was first rate as is the service...but my Dad, Mum, sister and I will never forget the 30+ years of both first rate dine in and takeaway experiences from them. The restaurant itself is such a nice and inviting environment and there was always such an impressive selection of many different Cantonese dishes at equally impressive prices.

Thank you so much to all past and present Rock Kung employees - including chefs, kitchen hands, wait staff, cashiers, maitre'ds and managers - for absolutely everything these last 30+ yesrs , including the food, service and atmosphere....you all are absolutely life savers to not only my parents, sister Corinne and I but the entire Australian community including the Australian Chinese community that includes us. You all deserve every reward and acknowledgement from as many customers, food critics and the government including the Monash City Council for the happiness amd joy you have brought us all for all manner of food related occasions.

Rock Kung is an absolute GEM of not only a Cantonese Chinese restaurant but also one of the absolute BEST restaurants you could ever go to. It is a Glen Waverley institution and if you live in or near Glen Waverley or happen to be passing by, my parents, sister and I very highly recommend Rock Kung, after 30+ years, it's still hard to beat in terms of high quality value for money Chinese Cantonese food, fast friendly service and a welcoming and nice...

Tonight, I went to pick up dinner with my 11 year old Son. He knows that it was my late fathers favourite restaurant and one my family had gone to for nearly 40 years. I picked up the food, paid by debit card $68.00 - normally they give you free prawn crackers but as I walked out, I noticed they didn’t so I immediately walked back through the door and wanted to purchase a bag which costs $2.50. I then held up my card and she just shook her head, I held up my card again and said I’d like to pay on card, she just shook her head while speaking to another staff member in their own language and without even making eye contact with me, tapped her pen on the register and pointed to a sign that said $35.00 min. I then said, I JUST spent $68.00 in here and all she did was shake her head again and tap with her pen, all the while still having a conversation with another staff member. I pointed out that I had been going there for near on 40 years but she just laughed and shook her head again. I was so shocked by the whole thing and disgusted that it occurred. I will never go there again and I will never again recommend this restaurant to another person. I mean who do you complain to? Nobody. They have their (local business owners throughout Monash) own rules and the consumer advocate just allow it to happen. I can’t wait to move out of Monash - where I have spent the entirety of my life. I hate glen Waverley and what it’s become. Rude, greedy and unrecognisable. Thanks for...
