A reasonably priced Japanese eatery next to Mitcham station~

I went at night and tried their Sushi Combo, Unadon and their Takoyaki. Overall the food wasn’t too bad, but there were both positives and negatives with the items.

The Sushi Combo was presented very nicely, on a sushi boat. However this was paid for as it was $58, for 30 pieces of sushi where 6-10 of them were plain cut vegetarian sushi rolls. Overall it’s still a nice dish to share for when you have a group of people.

The Unadon was reasonably priced, at $18. There was a good amount of sauce that came with the rice, and you get a reasonable portion of unagi on top of the rice. However, the amount of the sauce could’ve potentially been lowered slightly as it ended up being a little dominating and salty as the sauce felt like it had a strong soy sauce base. The dish was however nicely presented.

Prices were generally very reasonable - rice dishes were available from $16+ for dinner. Service wasn’t bad and there was ample parking nearby.

Overall it was not a bad experience and it is worth a visit, noting there is a 10%...

After reading the reviews we had to give it a go. Massive DISAPPOINTMENT.

Restaurant, is Chinese owned. All the servers, chefs/cooks were Chinese. Don’t expect authentic Japanese food.

We ordered from entrees, tempura, agedashi tofu, sushi set. Mains, tonkutsu and katsu curry

Customer service was good, attentive and friendly. Tables were a bit sticky and we came when they opened.

Now the food. Sushi was decent, flavours were clean, rice was over cooked and starchy

Tempura was very oily but fried well. The dipping sauce tasted strange. The agedashi tofu soup stock was the same as the tempura dipping sauce

Now onto the 2 mains. Very over cooked and very dry. Meat was very thin. More panko than meat. The curry’s katsu was from the supermarket. It’s very clear when you see the shape it comes in resembles the deli at the supermarkets. Fried to oblivion. Curry sauce was an instant sauce which was expected.

Came once and that was enough

Oh and loaded with MSG, needing to drink a lot...

Booked for 545 with a 2yo, ordered 2 banquets and a fried rice for the child. Waited 30min for miso soup - had to ask for the spoons, another 30 for giant plate of rice which was for the 2yo and our 2nd course. Then waited another 2 hours for anything to come out. With the 2yo now past bed, we asked for it to all come out at once as it was now 3hrs since we ordered. Then decided to take away. We were told 5 mins. Waited another 15. In that time, 2 other groups had also packed up and left due to waiting. The excuse was "lots of take away orders". How about customers who have come to the restaurant?! Also, no change table in single stall bathroom. For a banquet, the portions were quite small between 2 people. The chef out front was ignoring customers when they asked what was taking so long - pretty sure he was the manager too. The wait staff were slammed with complaints that weren't their fault. Thanks to the ladies for giving us an extra scoop of icecream and...

Reviewing takeaway food. A number of dishes order: sushi (entree), sashimi (entree), tebasaki, gyoza, una don, katsu don - $88 for 2 people Sushi and sashimi - excellent, fresh and refreshing. Gyoza - mmmm, delicious; Tebasaki - not sure, average taste; una don and katsu don - delicious. Lots of rice in una don and katsu don - too much to eat for us. Eel and pork had great taste, though. Collected in store and the restaurant had wonderful atmospher, decent size and it looked booked out on a Saturday evening. Atmosphere was one of diners enjoying their meals. I want to eat in. :-) photos of two takeaway dishes.
