Souvalicious — Restaurant in Melbourne

Reviews seem to be awesome or disgusting and not a lot in between. I'm going to go in between. The owner was alone so perhaps a little slower but was very nice and friendly. I expected gyros style or meat on the spit but the rotisserie was empty at 5.30pm. I asked if they do meat on the spit and he said yes its already cut. Hhhhmmm... well I decided to try a Lamb souvlaki anyway since I was there. The souvlaki was large with a lot of filling. It certainly wasn't greasy as some reviews have said and it wasn't the worst I've ever had. But it was far from the best, too. The meat was very dry, hard, and chewy. Obviously pre-cooked... I would hope earlier today but no way to know if it was cooked today or yesterday, and then fried to heat it up. I am little concerned about exactly whennit was cooked, given I've bought gyros meat elsewhere which I've re-heated a few days later and it's never been tough or dry, but hopefully it will he ok. (No stomach ache yet- LOL) Also sadly it definitely didn't have a gyros flavour which you would expect for a souvlaki, so I'm not sure how they're cooking their meat. It was a comedy of errors.

We got the fish and its pretty clear nothing is fresh - it was hard, rubbery and inedible (we threw it out) It took 25 minutes to get the order and there was only one other person ordering at the time The staff and young girl serving us were visibly eating chips while preparing the food They ended up giving our order accidentally to someone else - we asked for grilled fish and ended up with deep fried fish Overall hygiene of the place appeared to be very substandard

We got food here today as everything else nearby was shut. Thought would get some souvs as they must be good to name your shop after them. They couldn't fill our order and after reading reviews I'm glad. Ended up ordering fish and chips, bad idea. Flake tasted awfully fishy, chips thick and hard, the potato cakes looked so processed and grey I didnt dare to try them. My daughter did and said they tasted like damp. The Dim Sims were ok quite hard on the outside, soft inside but had quite a gritty after taste. I've been in bed with stomach pains and partner has been throwing up. The worst fish and chips I have ever eaten and will never go back. Hope my review saves...
