EXCELLENT JAPANESE FOOD WITH GREAT SERVICE First time at Sozai and was very impressed with the food quality, price and service - well done guys!! The restaurant operates over two floors. We were on the ground floor which had a nice ambience and generously sized tables. Good range on menu and a decent drinks list. people with mobility issues will be fine on the ground floor. Very small step on entry but otherwise good. On street parking can be a bit fierce so catch the tram that runs right past the restaurant if you can!

Update: We finally got a chance to dine in for lunch, and food and service were excellent. Good value for how fresh the ingredients were. ——— We discovered this delightful hidden spot by chance while enjoying a drink at the bar next door. The sushi was excellent, complete with authentic wasabi (instead of the package horseradish stuff). We didn't get a chance to fully experience their service or ambiance since we opted for takeaway and ate at the neighboring bar.

Great quality sashimi at a reasonable price. Sashimi/sushi platter didn't come with as many sushi varieties as we expected. We also enjoyed some miso soup, prawn tempura, wafu salad and salmon teriyaki to share. I would recommend the salmon - generous portion of fish. Although it claims to be BYO, $15 corkage per bottle is extremely steep. Limited atmosphere but friendly staff. Recommend for an easy dinner if you're not too fussed about the fine details!

I came to Sozai with high expectations based on the reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing.

Firstly, the service felt rushed and not very welcoming. When we asked questions about the menu, the staff seemed impatient and unwilling to engage. It made us feel more like a burden than valued guests.

The food itself didn’t meet the standard I was hoping for. Some dishes arrived lukewarm, and the sushi rice was dry and not very fresh. For the price point, I expected much better quality and attention to detail.

The atmosphere also left a lot to be desired — quite noisy and not particularly comfortable or inviting.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe honest feedback is important. I hope the team at Sozai takes this constructively and makes improvements, because the...

Not worth the visit. We had a young male waiter who seemed to have a chip on his shoulder (Friday Night). He kept trying to get us to buy more beer, which was hilarious because we weren’t enjoying the vibe by that point.

The sushi is very expensive and sadly completely unmemorable. We had a very extensive selection of small sushi pieces and tempura. Not worth the price. And they have kikoman soy sauce on the tables. Seriously? At $150 for 4 people you cannot slap supermarket products on your table.

Finally, a very hectic vibe inside made us want to leave as quickly as possible. Good luck calling a waiter over though when you need something, like some wasabi. I just gave up...

As a somewhat regular at Sozai, I am sad to write a negative review, however not sure what is going on in the kitchen but the meal we got was strictly 2nd rate from what used to be a 1st rate place.

Agedashi tofu was bland, coating on tofu does not resemble previous deliciousness, spicy tuna roll was without spice to the point that it tasted like the other ones and we're poorly cut, staff at door was completely disengaged. I could go on, but I am sure anyone reading this gets the gist.

The people we shared our meal with, who are more 'regular' were equally dissapointed

Please Sozai management get back to your...
