8days Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

Wait staff was incredibly rude before we'd even placed our food order. We'd been seated by the toilets which had a pretty bad smell so we moved to one of the many empty tables nearby. The waitress came back down and rudely stated that she would have to move us if a big party came in even if our food had arrived. Her tone was the biggest issue. We looked around incredulously at all the empty tables which surrounded us and said what about all those empty tables, to which she replied if a party of 15 came in this is the only table she could use. We were sitting at a table for 4 which was beside another table for 4 which could be pushed together. It is worth noting that there were at least 10 other tables for 4 free (several beside each other that could be pushed together) and a larger table too. It was unnecessary and rude so we promptly paid for the coffees we had ordered and left. Disappointing first impression and will not...

We recently had brunch and won't be going back. Booked a table online and they didnt have it set up for us. Had to also get our own menus ask to order when the the place wasnt even that busy. 2 of us then ordered the chilli scrambled eggs and were massively disappointed. The menu said it came with 'chilli oil'....and both plates came out drowning in 'sweet chilli oil'. Which completely overpowered the eggs and 'cubed feta pieces' the dish also came with. When we very politely questioned what we'd be been served vs. on the menu, the confrontational chef came out to the table and said 'it's open to interpretation'. Hmmm not sure if that's how it's meant to work when you order specifically off a menu. Another dish we ordered was porridge, that was almost the size of a salad bowl and just not very appealing. Real shame as we used to visit this place a lot...

I used to like this cafe, but the service has gone downhill terribly lately. We ordered 2 poached eggs at not a very busy time, about 1.30PM on a weekday, and waited. After about 20 minutes we asked the waiter what the problem was as the order hadn't arrived. He had a look and told us the order hadn't gone through to the kitchen. We left after that. I don't know why no-one approached us while we were just sitting there to ask if we needed anything. I can just assume that we were going to be kept sitting until they closed the cafe and told us to leave.
