A relatively small drinks selection, but The Brunswick Green more than makes up for it with decent prices and a very welcoming space. Indoors there's a small front room with a stage for live music and towards the back of the building there is a wood fireplace and a few cosy nooks which are perfect for dates. Outside at the back is a large open area with solid wooden tables and benched for small groups to sit around, and some alcoves for larger groups. Despite it being so spacious there's a cosy feel to the whole place with lots of outdoor heating making it feel super comfortable. The Green generally attracts a slightly older and quieter crowd than other pubs/bars in the area.
The bathrooms are always functional and tidy. Overall the place is kept clean and cosy. Although it's not my particular draw, the venue hosts regular jazz nights for free which is always interesting, whether you're a fan or just happy to have (quiet) live music in the background.
The service here is great, with friendly and helpful bar staff. The menu is small, but the food is good and very moderately priced. I love the haloumi and mushroom burger.
The Green is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a new relaxed place for a cheap feed or a couple of drinks to catch up with friends or...
Read morei tried a few times to go here, hoping to play on the piano. i purchased meal and drink, hoping that they would appreciate the respect that i showed to them (and i would have been happy to purchase similar every time, for the meal was not entirely bad). However, on both occasions they absolutely rejected me, i found it to be very disrespectful.
They told me that they had no obligation to allow people to play the piano, if even they were pianists of composers who studied at conservatoriums (and may this review be a warning to such musicians, who hope to perform anywhere).
So i left a card with contact detail there, and the people gave me hope that they would use it to contact me, but did no such thing.
It was a good example of the culture of 'Australia' - to assume the worst in others. And it was ambiguous to me, how people even manage to find places to perform in, if they each receive this variety of treatment.
i decided not to return to this unwelcoming place, because their treatment of me made me to feel very sad while i returned to my home, many...
Read moreJust had a very brief and bad experience but I will be constructive with my criticism here.
Walked in and asked the bartender for a gin martini, to which she screwed her face up and said 'i don't know what that is'..i then asked her if anyone other bartenders knew how to make a martini (simple drink) and she said 'eugh, can you not just have a gin and tonic'..i said sorry I really would like a gin martini. She looked irritated and went to ask another lady who then said 'I don't know how to make it either, we aren't a cocktail bar' ( there was bottle of gin, vodka and other liquors behind the bar and shakers'.. overall, they made me feel like an idiot and didnt even say sorry. Very bad customer service. Management - please train your staff accordingly. I will not be reccomending this...
