Lots of exciting hype around the new cafe Walrus on Sydney Road. Great to see an American diner style cafe which are few and far between in Melbourne. Having been to the US I came to expect solid portions at a reasonable price. The portion was mid to below average for a brekky, two thinner pancakes, 3 rashers of bacon (or one small sausage patty in our case), and two eggs for $26, which in comparison to the local brunch competition is pretty high for what you're getting. Coffee was on the smaller side and will set you back $5 for a regular full cream standard latte - a bit much especially when you start factoring in surcharges for alternative milks. Pancakes were nice and soft, no complaints. Real maple syrup on the table. Qualms with the flavourless and overcooked sausage patty - definitely a big miss on that one. Bacon was quite average, nothing sensational and have made tastier and crispier at home, sorry to say. Decor is cute, booth style seating great for parties of four, or counter top seating. Beware though - the cafe only has 4 x 4 booth seats and approximately 10 or so seats at the counter. If you come at prime brunch time, you will be waiting. Unfortunately wheelchairs and prams may be difficult to fit within the cafe so be aware if you're making the journey out. May or may not come back, worth a try but not an all time favourite for now.

Comfort diner food, done at the absolute best. FOOD & COFFEE: We got the Mexican omelette and the pancakes and they were both absolutely phenomenal! The Mexican omelette was a standout for myself because it was the creamiest, dreamiest eggs I’ve ever had. It was full of flavour, more-ish and done absolutely perfectly. We got it with a side of beef sausage patty and it was a match made in heaven. The pancakes were super fluffy and were crispy on the outside. We loved all the balance of flavours and the portion sizes as well! Super satiated and flavour was not a miss. The coffee was also amazing, I got a mocha and most places make it too sweet but Walrus was perfect and look at that coffee cup size! It doesn’t get any better. SERVICE: The team were super lovely and despite it being very busy when we came during a public holiday, they were very lovely. Overall, finding a brunch place near to the CBD that is reasonable in price and delicious have been getting harder but Walrus hits every mark of a good brunch place. Definitely a must re-visit!

ORDERED: 🥞 Blueberry pancake: 3-stack served with blueberry compote, butter and maple syrup ($24.00) + 🥓 bacon ($7.00) + 🥔 hash brown ($4.00) I paid $36.46 for my portion here! REVIEW: 🙋‍♀️ As someone who doesn't have pancakes often, I really enjoyed Walrus' blueberry pancakes. Soft, eggy, sweet and everything I would look for in a pancake. We got that pancake with salted butter which tasted divine amongst all the sweet notes. Once you cut through the pancake there's a beautiful cross section of blueberries! In regards to side: bacon was crispy, hash brown was crispy food - was fabulous. Perfect amount of maple syrup! I only wish there was more butter! 🙏 ✨ Service was great. Even though we were seated outside, they didn't have us wait too long to order our food. Lines are so long though! 🥲 Interior was fun, it seems like Walrus has really committed to an easy American diner theme. Tall plastic water cups, booth seats, cool lighting pendants!!

I had high expectations for this American-inspired diner, and I'm thrilled to say it exceeded them in every way! The decor was absolutely charming, creating a delightful atmosphere that transported me straight to America. The service was exceptional, with a friendly and attentive staff that made me feel welcomed.

The ambiance was enchanting, with a carefully curated music selection that added a touch of magic to the dining experience which enhanced the overall atmosphere.

The pancakes were a heavenly delight, fluffy and delectable, the bacon was a true revelation, with a rich, smoky flavor that tantalized my taste buds.

The portion sizes were generous, providing a satisfying meal that left me completely content. I appreciated the value for money, knowing that I was getting both quality and quantity.

Overall, my experience at this American-inspired diner was nothing short of fantastic. From the captivating decor to the impeccable service and mouthwatering food, it's a true gem that...
