Breakfast @The_Eastern_Bloc for a relaxing cup of chai latte and a poppy seed bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, baby spinach and tomato. The chai latte is laden with spices, pouring it via the sieve to get 2 cups of the lovely aroma laden chai. This was enjoyed with the delicious bagel creation which is a satisfying way to start the weekend.
Visited again for lunch. @The_Eastern_Bloc is a cafe serving some dishes from southern Turkey, one being manti - a Turkish style beef ravioli in a yoghurt sauce
These are small little parcels with a slightly chewy mouth feel encasing beef and immersed in a yoghurt sauce which is a little odd due to the sourness. However, a little bowl of chilli flakes is present which when sprinkled over the top makes a big difference. Very tasty meal and something completely different to anything I've eaten.
I also picked up a cheese and spinach borek for takeaway which was delicious, lovely flaky pastry, lots of mixer feta and spinach, great combo.
Another visit for breakfast - Menemem: Turkish baked eggs, home-made tomato sauce, mild green pepper with garden herbs. Also got the optional sucuk and a Vietnamese coffee.
Freezing cold outside, the warm inviting venue is just what I needed. A tray with a glass of ice, dish of condensed milk, and a pot of coffee is presented to assemble the Vietnamese coffee as I like and it is very enjoyable.
Next breakfast is served piping hot. The baked eggs are delicious in the capsicum and heb mix. I love the Turkish bread which is great to dip in and soak up the juices but also becomes very filling. The sucuk is shaped like chorizo slices but is the Turkish version of their own salami like cured meat. It's different to anything I've tasted before and thoroughly enjoyed with the eggs. Awesome way to start the day!

Read moreI recently visited Café Eastern Bloc, and unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the expectations. The ambiance was decent, with a unique decor style, but the overall experience was lacking.
Food: I ordered the Turkish Eggs, and it was underwhelming. The presentation was nice, but the flavors were quite bland, and it felt like it lacked freshness. For the price, I was expecting much better quality.
Service: The staff seemed uninterested and inattentive. It took a long time to place an order, and when the food arrived, it was lukewarm. There was no follow-up to check if we needed anything, which made the experience feel unwelcoming.
Value: The prices are on the higher side, but given the quality of food and service, it didn’t feel like value for money. I left feeling disappointed and not sure if I’d want to return.
Overall, Café Eastern Bloc has potential, but they need to work on both food quality and service to provide a better...
Read moreNestled in a corner in Bell St you’ll find The Eastern Bloc, a turkish cafe. I love coming here. The food is amazing, the cafe experience is very relaxing. It’s near the Coburg Station and the small park/pathway so it has nice view if you sit near the glass window.
The menemen is a must try!! Make sure you get it with sujuk (if you’re not vegetarian).
The nutella gözleme is nice especially on days when you feel like satisfying your morning sweet tooth craving.
Their coffee is amazing, you can tell they take their time for every order despite the morning rush for coffee. Cappucinno creamy and their iced mocha is refreshing (atleast for me).
Definitely try and visit! Owned by such lovely people. You’d love to be a...
