**Rating: 4/5** The Fitz Cafe and Rooftop offers a delightful dining experience with its friendly staff, pleasant ambiance, and a variety of dishes that cater to different tastes. Here’s a detailed review of my recent visit: #### Ambiance and Service From the moment I stepped into The Fitz Cafe and Rooftop, I was impressed by the warm and inviting atmosphere. It provides a great view and a relaxing environment, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring that we felt welcome and well taken care of throughout our meal. #### The Food We decided to try a mix of their offerings, and here’s how each dish fared: - **Spicy Fried Chicken Burger**: This burger was a highlight of our meal. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a spice level that added a nice kick without being overwhelming. The flavors were well-balanced, and the fresh toppings complemented the spicy chicken beautifully. - **Bolognese**: The Bolognese was a comforting classic. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of meat and seasoning. It was a hearty dish that satisfied our craving for something familiar and delicious. - **Chicken Parma**: The Chicken Parma (Parmigiana) was unfortunately a bit of a miss. The chicken was slightly overcooked, making it a bit tough, and the breading was too thick and greasy. The marinara sauce and melted cheese on top, which should have added a savory, tangy complement, ended up being overshadowed by the heaviness of the breading. This dish could benefit from a lighter hand in preparation to allow the flavors to shine through more effectively. #### Drinks One of the standouts of our visit was their iced coffee with ice cream. It was a delightful treat that balanced the bitterness of the coffee with the sweetness of the ice cream perfectly. The combination was refreshing and indulgent, making it a must-try for coffee lovers. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially for those looking to enjoy a pleasant meal in a charming setting.

I've never left a review for any restaurant before but felt compelled to set up an account to warn others before they spend their money here! My brother and I decided to visit The Fitz for the first time in search of a good pub feed, however we were left highly disappointed after ordering two $30 chicken Parmas that were beyond bland (and i'm no picky eater, especially with a chicken parma) The whole dish down to the salad was lacklustre. Visually it didn't look too bad, but the taste of the cheese was reminiscent of crappy Bega cheese you buy from Coles (wouldn't be surprised if it was) The chicken was a strange colour and totally flavourless and the salad although it had cucumber, tomato and carrot in it none of them tasted like anything and had no dressing at all, so very bland... On top of this the chips were completely oil soaked (some people like that, but we found them hard to eat without feeling ill) The portion size was the only plus about this meal, however I still wouldn't recommend this place to you unless you have the taste palate of a three year old child. You are better off saving your money or meandering down the street to any of the fantastic restaurants within a 1-2 minute walk where the food is actually good for the price!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the bottomless brunch at @thefitzonbrunswickst in Fitzroy, and it’s safe to say it’s one of the best ways to spend a Sunday with your girlfriend. The picturesque Melbourne sun, combined with an incredible list of cocktails, made this brunch truly exceptional. The cocktails were the highlight for me; their creativity and flavors were unlike any other bottomless brunch I’ve tried in Melbourne. The gin cocktails, in particular, were outstanding, and they added a delightful twist to the experience. When it came to the food, I was pleasantly surprised. The dishes served were not only delicious but also filling, which is sometimes a rarity at bottomless brunches. It’s clear that this place understands the essence of what a perfect bottomless brunch should be, and they’ve nailed it. One standout dish for me was the Indian fritters bonda plate, which was a unique and satisfying choice. At $79 per person, this bottomless brunch is a steal deal, considering the quality of food and drinks you get. If you’re looking for a memorable Sunday brunch experience in Melbourne, I highly recommend giving it a try!

This is a retrospective review because we were just talking about our experience and remembered it all. Food good, we all enjoyed the food and coffee. But the service was absolutely terrible. Now, we were a group of 3 women. We’re all friendly and smiley. We had a young female presenting person serving us, and she was unbelievably rude. Upon walking in the cafe, we waited at the door (as you do at most establishments) and the women yelled across from the bar, “3 people?”. I mouthed, so as not to disturb the other diners, that we had a booking, and she yelled back across them “name”. I didn’t want to yell my name directly over a group eating their brunch, so when I looked shy she yelled again “under what name?!”. Thankfully another staff member saved us at that point at took us to our window table. She wouldn’t even acknowledge our orders or questions, she would just write them down and walk away. Having worked in hospo for 6 years, and now healthcare - I do understand when you are under the pump you might not present your best self. But it wasn’t busy. She gave off this complete air of “I don’t want to serve you” / “I don’t want to be here”. Such a bad attitude. We got a sense management might have been aware as when either of the two male presenting staff members delivered anything or spoke to us, they were really nice - as though they were making up for the other person. I would like to add there was another young woman doing a trial or training shift who was doing great under the circumstances. She was so friendly towards us, and if she was under the guidance of our other woman, I really hope she was ok! Honestly, we 3 were able to laugh about the whole thing amongst ourselves, but knowing we can guarantee the best service ever up the street at Marios, we are unlikely to ever return...

EDITED AFTER RESPONSE:

Yes I decided to leave a review after my friend because I was absolutely disgusted with your response and I needed to tell the full story.

Im not trying to bring you guys down, im just unhappy with how you handled this situation and how your handling it now.

I also just saw a response from another customer who is unrelated to us, who wrote before me... saying that you offer 15 gluten free options.... Sorry, but that's what's this whole review was about isn't it?

Your saying you offer it, however telling me to stay home in the next breath?

Im just trying to tell you, it's not hard to have a separate pot, pan, toaster, whatever to cater to gluten free.

Very disappointed.

When we walked past this restaurant, there were so many Gluten free options advertised that was super exciting as someone with Ceoliacs. Before sitting down we ask one of the wait staff if they cater for Ceoliacs and they assured us that it wouldn't be an issue.

We proceeded to order food and drinks.

The manager then comes and advises what we ordered cannot be made GF. I then ask what meals I can get, and instead of pointing it out he says "what would you like?" I then start awkwardly listing off potential meal options for him to give me a blank look and say "no, not that one"

This whole situation made me feel awkward and ashamed.

He then eventually says that I can have a avocado dish and I was happy with this.

However what came out was just plain avocado on gf bread, nothing else that was listed on the menu for this particular meal came with it. I get it for cross contamination reasons, but what makes me even more upset is the fact I still had to pay FULL PRICE, even though I only got a quarter of the dish.

Ceoliacs is more common...
