FOOD - Croissants were great. We got the limited edition cookie croissant, kouign aman, blue cheese & mushroom and the honeycomb. The double baked croissants were great, albeit a tad bit sweet. The croissants themselves are buttery and great but the fillings need more balance.
SERVICE - Abhorrent. I genuinely want this to be a constructive criticism for future pick up orders. We received instructions to pick up our croissants and how we didn’t need to line up which was great. What wasn’t great was the experience we had when we tried to do it. We went on a Sunday which was fair that it was busy but the service was absolutely abhorrent. We tried asking one of the staff and she waved us off and told us to just ask someone else -super unprofessional already. Then we stood at the counter for 5 minutes, no one bothering to help and we tried to ask a barista if there was anyone that was available only for the barista to make a hand gesture as if to say “What do you want?”. After maybe 10 minutes of rude service, we got someone for her not to say hi or even greet us - only saying “Pickup???” and at that point we just wanted to get out with our croissants. Here’s the kicker - she was like “did you want any coffees?” and I had to ask “Don’t we have to line up?” and she was like “Oooh yeah, bye”.
The croissants were great - no doubt but the service was beyond appalling. Paying $55 for 4 croissants and to receive service that made me feel as if I’ve insulted their ancestry was not a pleasant experience.
Even my partner who is usually not fussy to service and empathetic to staff felt taken aback by how dismissive, rude and disrespectful the staff were. From body language to literal language, it felt as if we were dirt the moment we stepped in.
Fix your pick up system. I come from a background wherein I’ve worked in the service industry before and I have so much respect for people willing to work on weekends to allow others to enjoy it but it does not give a free pass to treat customers like dirt, especially for the price of over $10 for a...
Read moreIn a world of pastries, your croissants truly stand in a league of their own. The moment you step into the industrial-chic space, you're greeted by the intoxicating aroma of butter and freshly baked goods that fills the air. Let me tell you - it's worth every minute of waiting in that queue that often stretches down Rose Street.
The star of the show, your traditional croissant, is nothing short of a masterpiece. Each layer shatters with a satisfying crackle, revealing a perfectly honeycomed interior that speaks to the meticulous 3-day preparation process. The pain au chocolat deserves special mention - the high-quality dark chocolate perfectly balances the buttery layers without overwhelming them.
The twice-baked almond croissant is simply divine - crispy, caramelized exterior giving way to a frangipane filling that's rich without being cloying. And those seasonal specials? Pure genius. The creativity in your rotating menu keeps customers coming back for more.
Your baristas deserve recognition too - the coffee program perfectly complements the pastries, with expertly pulled shots that stand up to Melbourne's high coffee standards.
However, I do have one significant suggestion for improvement. While the industrial-minimalist aesthetic of your space is stunning, the seating area feels somewhat limited. During peak hours, finding a spot to sit and properly savor these exceptional pastries can be challenging. An expanded seating area would enhance the overall experience, allowing more customers to fully appreciate these remarkable creations in a relaxed setting rather than having to take them to go.
Despite the seating limitations, Lune remains a must-visit destination for anyone serious about pastries. The quality and consistency of your products set a new standard for what a croissant can be.

Although I agree that they are a bit expensive, they are consistent. All pastries were good, but the cinnamon scroll and kougin aman were exceptional. The coffee was also really good. However, the chocolate is elite. I just find the twice baked far too sweet for my liking. Generally, I'm a plain croissant or chocolatine kind of guy anyway.
They have now changed coffee supplier, and I can't say that I've tried it. Although they had some interesting singles on the shelf.
I read a few reviews about it being sold out. I'm sorry, but it's Lune, and if you know the croissant culture in Melbourne, then you have to go early and queue up. It's the same at all the famous places. Kate and the team are good, but they can't control the weather. I'll definitely be back, even if I have to queue for a bit.
I've tried so many croissants, I'm not always a fan of the twice baked ones, but I love the original, ham & cheese, cinnamon, kougin aman and general all specials, too. I am also a fan of their sister shop just up the road. Lune croissants are a classic style.
Lune croissants are a classic style. They are buttery, light, flaky, and best enjoyed warm. If you read the book, they tell you the techniques they use. I'm not giving the secrets away, though.
The place looks really spacious after the fit out. It's not changed a lot, but it's cleaner and more open. You have to visit Lune if you're in Melbourne, right.
I give them top marks because of consistency and customer experience. It's a place you go to relax, eat a croissant, take in the space etc.
