Been here plenty of times, however the most recent experience was extremely off-putting to say the least. The younger bloke running FOH on the day we visited was too care-free and kept yapping with other customers rather than providing attentive service. Overhearing his bad-mouthing of other localities was also rather distasteful. He then overcharged us for another customer's table and then had a ridiculous smirk on his face when giving us a refund for being overcharged, we didn't make a big deal about it and politely asked for a refund of the excess $30+. So rather than taking responsibility of his honest mistake and keeping a composed friendly/neutral attitude, he decided to be immature and divisive about the whole thing. As someone from an extensive hospo background, it is entirely understandable that the day can get busy and overwhelming sometimes, however that's no excuse to treat customers (or anyone) in such a condescending manner. Just seemed like this bloke was taking the piss and enjoying himself at the same time. Very poor customer service overall. You've now lost a large group of longtime customers because of this.
Food-wise, the portions are an inconsistent size between visits. Simple things like bacon are sometimes burnt, sometimes rubbery almost-raw and sometimes perfect. The standard espresso has always been sour and astringent, perhaps the baristas could be retrained on the basics. Multiple times we have also received stale bread, pastries and buns, which accounts for a majority of their menu items... Things were much better when the older gentleman was running things IMO. Management and quality control seems to have gone out of the window most days, peak and off-peak. The fried chicken burger is not worth getting, basically a tiny half-fillet and mostly stale bun with a mismatched sauce, you can literally get better value and quality in a KFC Zinger burger for less than half the price. It pains me to have to compare a premium cafe menu item to KFC - maybe keep it off the menu until it's refined.
Atmosphere is great with natural lighting throughout the interior, and lovely window views. Very cozy overall, but can get a bit claustrophobic during peak hours (which is to be expected with most smaller cafes).
Hopefully some of this feedback can lead to an improvement in some areas. Thanks...
Read moreBrunch scenes are back in Melbourne! My weekend brunch was at a quaint cafe at Nunawading @thepeddler_cafe that was buzzing with the local, regular, and first time visitor crowds on a Saturday morning.
We started off with a large cup of latte and the aroma of freshly ground coffee made us feel so positive and happy. Followed by two thick, creamy and refreshing berry and mango smoothies.
Next we had the famous Biscoff pancakes and being a @lotusbiscoffau fan, I completely approve and strongly recommend this dessert brunch dish that's not too sweet yet enough to make you enjoy the biscoff flavors with the vanilla icecream, honey, fresh fruits, berries and the nice and soft pancakes.
From savoury side, we couldn't give the Waffle Bene a miss as the classic eggs Benedict was served on a waffle, and the combo of it, was immensely delicious and flavorsome.
At last, we had the best of best brunch dish at this place and that's called Bao Bao, tender, juicy pork with pickles, mayo inside soft baos served with shredded carrot and pickled ginger. Such a fantastic creation and it was so addictive and delectable that I'm definitely gonna head back soon to have this dish one more time.
Although on the weekends, the place remains packed still it's worth the wait for a table, as their service is literally super fast, with an amazing and a helpful team of staff, who will serve you with a smile and cater to all your requirements. The menu has so many wide range of brunch dishes with both GF and VF options besides being affordable.
So guys head to @thepeddler_cafe To try their incredible brunch dishes, beverages, freshly baked treats and mostly, to have...
Read moreAlways drive past this place and finally decided I needed to stop by for something! I went on a Friday around 11am. It was buzzing with people but had free seats and tables - they had seating inside and outside (under cover) which is great as it means more space.
I ordered a cappuccino and a Salmon Poke Bowl. Total $28 approx. for a coffee (with oat milk) and a meal. Not too bad for a metro Melbourne cafe. Salmon Poke Bowl was all very fresh - a colourful plate. The sauce on the rice really made the dish. The salmon was also crusted in sesame seeds which added some texture. I was tempted to try the falafel poke bowl so I might have to come back for that!
I wanted to give feedback on the vibe and atmosphere based on staff working. One of the older men (who I assumed was the owner) was really nice - talking to every customer and helping make the coffees. The staff were just as accommodating and kind. As it was my first time coming I wasn’t sure how service worked - I walked to the register and stood there unsure what to do. While pumping out coffee orders he still managed to ask me very kindly if I wanted to sit or have a coffee to go, when I said I wanted to dine in he gestured to a table and said not to worry as the servers would come to me. Just felt very warm, and I also noticed some people who seemed like regulars striking up conversation with him. He engaged with every person with the same warmth. It was just really nice to see and experience.
I will definitely be back when I’m...
