The Rooks Return — Restaurant in Melbourne

These guys were very unreasonable. I asked for 5x B52 shots. They poured 2/3 of the shot with grand manier. I had to wait for a further 10mins and enquired whether the shots were to be completed. The bar staff then we're very aggressive to announce the shots were complete and they had run out of baileys to complete them. Once I paid, they were very unaccommodating to say I was aggressive and confrontational with the staff to demand what I paid for. When I asked for my money back, our party was penalised and insulted . The bar staff are atrocious. Don't come here for anything. Be As I'm writing this, the bar staff are coming up to me and abusing me for the bad review. The one with the cap has been the worse. Come on. Happy to discuss this but seriously, to be treated as the worse of society, When I'm being reasonable and calm. Worse case of human behaviour I've encountered in Melbourne. And I've been in Melbourne in 5 years. I would not have done this without proper punctuation and grammer. Take this with a grain of salt or whatever. The cap guy calls himself nunna. The Rooks Return is best known to me for its Wednesday night Rookies sessions. The Rookies played their first gig there, and honoured the bar by naming themselves accordingly. This is the only genuine night of the week that I know of which is a genuine muso/music lovers night, With an outstanding group of not just musicians, but performers. Traditionally, the venue has complimented this with an old style bar service, with a bit of actual style(rare these days in the age of the generic) and one of their greatest (even if so simple) the bar wipe, which is a simple, yet huge touch of class as it makes the patron feel noted. This, in turn not only feels good as a patron, but also feels great to not wear the night's stale beverages on one's clothes as an absorbent, unwitting "mop". Nearly every Wednesday night for nearly 8 years, the unparalleled best night of the week in Melbourne for genuine music lovers. Supported by a fantastic lineup of various other bands on other nights. After enjoying our time at The Rooks Return a few months ago, me and my friend decided to go back last night after having some food at El Camino Cantina across the road. We picked up a sombrero on the way out and carried it in our hands instead of wearing them.

In the Rooks Return, we were asked to give them the hats and they were taken away from us even though we weren’t wearing them. My friend asked why and we were told they don’t want ‘that type of crowd’ in the bar.

Feeling very unwelcome we asked what whisky’s he recommended and were told it was everyone’s first shift that night and he didn’t have one to recommend, but he was the manager. As he turned around to read the names on the bottles, we left.

We won’t go back again because the attitude of not wanting paying customers in the bar due to discrimination is simply not acceptable. I left an extra star for the first good...
