If I were basing this review simply on the food I recieved, a 5 star scale would be inadequate, I would honestly give this place a 10 out of 5. The food is beyond phenomenal and this is a true Coeliac haven with the GF/non GF balance being the reverse of the usual (3 non gf options excluding burgers with an option for both) and the rest is our playground with prices keeping reasonable. Sadly what hurts this place is the service provided by the older blonde woman (likely owner/manager) who seems to treat certain customers very different from others. It was highly jarring to see the switch between regulars (referred to by name, and called darling regularly), and everyone else (myself included) who got a brusque side that wanted very little to do with you and makes you wonder how many become regulars when with a first experience like I had. I'd go back for the food 1000 per cent, but thanks to my anxiety, I wouldn't try to order or pay in person again. If you have social anxiety, use Uber eats as a pick up (or they may have other options), as you don't deserve to spend 50 dollars and be treated similarly. Was truly a disappointment to recieve a side of the attitude, with an otherwise phenomenal culinary experience. Congratulations to Michael for losing weight and hopefully you were more supportive as your employee's brothers basketball coach in their dream, and sorry I wasn't worth the same reception, and I didn't deserve to leave questioning whether I was polite enough or didn't smile. Although the door dash driver recieved a similar attitude, so who knows. Thankfully your food saved you from the review I...
Read moreI’ve previously recommended Theo’s but after a few poor meals we gave them another try tonight. Firstly the person on the phone was rude, told me she couldn’t hear me because I had my phone on speaker (I didn’t) and then gave the phone to another person as “I must be going deaf”. The second person was a bit better but the problem with the audio was still on their end (I’ve noticed it before but not on any other call I make). Finally made myself heard and placed the order.
My husband turns up to collect the food and they say they have no record of it and I must have phoned the wrong number. They then admit they have the order, they just gave the food to someone else and crossed out our order. The food is reordered and my husband to told it will be 5-10 minutes. He is then ignored for 30 mins. Other customers arrive after him, order, are served and leave. Still no food. He finally goes to the counter to complain and cancel the order and the staff avoid him and do not say that the food is nearly ready so I have no idea what is going on tonight but my kids are starving and Theo’s has wasted our time. Do not recommend. Will not be recommending in all the places I have praised Theo’s...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for the last couple months and I’m sincerely shocked to see low star reviews.
This family works tirelessly to provide what I confidently claim as Melbournes, maybe even the entire countries beat fish and chips hands down. To top that, there’s never a dull moment in the shop and the conversations are fun and authentic. Great customer service and great shop presentation too while I’m at it.
For starters, the price for what you’re getting is actually very very reasonable and I’d happily pay more.
Hand on heart swear - and I’ve had A LOT of fish and chips in my life ever since I was a kid - these chips and scallops are ridiculously amazing. Super soft and fluffy in the middle and perfectly crispy on the outside.
I really don’t get how anybody could fault this place. Well, I do, they probably visited once and based their decision on that one experience.
I on the other hand have come here several times, am a verified local guide and am telling you, visit Theo’s if you love hot chips, Greek salad and of course, fish. There’s actually no other place in the city worth visiting. I literally held off for two weeks while they were on...
