Genuinely it should be illegal to open a business with such a low level of service. If you're happy being treated like cattle, then feel free. Never in my life have I even been to a cafe and felt so neglected as a customer/guest.

The cake was ok, honestly all of the cakes looked lovely, but the one I tried was not worth the price tag, the base was the best part.

I specifically asked to be seated, and after waiting in line for about 10 minutes (which is something I'd never do, but I was curious about all the fuss), and given that the heat was so unbearable, I thought it was only natural given it was located in a filthy alley with no other seating options whatsoever. The server completely lacked any concept of social interaction skills, and simply handed us a box and put our order through as takeaway despite me specifying we would wait for a table, and she confirmed that was fine.

Honestly so many things were so wrong with this place. It was even physically such a filthy place, visible dirt and grease and grime everywhere.

Whoever opened and is managing this place seems to have no real world experience in the hospitality sector.

Here is a small fact that I'd like to impart to the owner and all service staff: your customers are not dogs.

Ps. After being treated so poorly, the last thing I'm going to do is clear my own table, especially when there are 3 staff members on their phones standing around doing nothing.

Once again. I am actually a human being, and you have the responsibility to not only take care of your customers but at your ridiculous peace tags - you imply a certain level of service that comes with the sale. That's why it's called a "service fee".

I hope you either improve or shut down, and make space for a...

This is a must visit cafe hidden in a lane way in Melbourne CBD! 📌Tori offers a smooth, retro and minimal aesthetic environment, serving high quality and rich pastries and sweet items such as Madeline’s, short cakes and cheese cakes! 🍰The speciality items definitely is the matcha, Houjicha and Genmaicha! 💗

Order: 🥖 Garlic Bread Honestly was unsure whether to grab the garlic bread, however with Melbournes cold weather this definitely warmed me up! 🥶Garlic bread has always been my comfort food and Tori’s version did not disappoint! 🙌🏻 It was infused with so much butter and garlic and the bread was perfect 🍞

🍵 Matcha Strawberry As someone who is lactose and not a milk lover, this drink was definitely a highlight 🐄. The matcha was super high quality and rich in flavour and was complimented so well with tiny strawberry chunks on the bottom! 🍓They also put a good amount of milk in so it wasn’t too milky! Overall a favourite and would come back for this! 💚

☕️Matcha Yuzu Another amazing drink! The matcha went so well with the yuzu and surprisingly it was not too sweet 😎! Definitely would recommend if you’re a yuzu lover! 👍🏻

🥮 Matcha Madeline I’ve heard so many good reviews on the Madeline’s and they did not disappoint! 💞The Madeline’s were freshly baked upon time of arrival and was topped with little hints of matcha 🤤

🍰 Yuzu Madeline Another Madeline that I was excited to try! This also did not disappoint if you’re a yuzu lover! The flavours were so rich and high quality, however the top was a bit hard! But overall one of the nicest Madeline’s I’ve had...

Very disappointing. Cake looks pretty but tasted average, don't understand the hype.

We visited on a Monday afternoon. The cafe was busy with a queue. We went as a group of 5, it was raining outside so we all went inside. I waited at the queue while the rest of the group hang around the small area near the entrance. There was a sign that says get a table after you ordered but there was just not enough space and we didn't want to block the pathway. A table got vacant so half of my group went there while I stayed in the queue for 10 min. After I ordered, the staff ask where am I sitting, I pointed to the corner where my group was and the staff said we shouldn't have taken a table before I ordered. The thing I don't understand is if I didn't have a table, why would you ask where I am sitting?

The cakes and drinks came pretty fast. The strawberry shortcake looks pretty but the strawberry was sour and lack strawberry flavour, the sponge was dry and the cream didn't taste like cream. $14 for this slice of cake was disappointing. I have had much better ones for half the price.

The ube basque cheesecake was also disappointing. The centre of a basque cheesecake should be soft and creamy, it was dense and dry. Ube flavour was mild.

Strawberry matcha drink was just ok, strawberry was sour and matcha latte was not sweet. Tried the madeleine and canele as well. Very average.

Overall a very disappointing experience. I don't understand the hype. May be people like the old...

Finding Tori's Cafe was quite a challenge, as it is tucked away in Hardware Lane. I had to walk back and forth several times before locating it. I've attached a video for guidance—the first video shows the location. I visited cafe at 12:30 PM on a Wednesday. The cafe itself is quite small, comfortably seating only 20-25 people. The limited seating means you often have to share tables with strangers, which can be uncomfortable, especially if they block your view or make you feel uneasy. Given the scarcity of tables, it would be helpful if the cafe implemented a time limit for customers. Many people were using the cafe as a workspace, turning it into a library rather than a place to eat. It felt awkward to be the only one eating while others were on their laptops. The management should encourage those who have finished their meals to make space for new customers. There was a line of people waiting, while some who had finished eating continued to chat leisurely. As for the food, I tried the Ube Basque cheesecake ($14) and the matcha ($7.50) both of which were delightful. The cheesecake was amazing, and the matcha was perfectly balanced—not too sweet. However, I would not return to this cafe in the future due to the limited space and inability to enjoy my food in peace. I might choose to order takeaway, but that takes away the whole dining experience.
