Union Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

Will not be heading back. We have been here a few times in the past with friends and family, it was always quite good. Tonight was terrible, it is possibly under new management, but has gone down hill. The vegetables seemed like they had been sitting in the steamer all day, one person could not finish their burger it was that bad. I found my steak to be quite nice, as did others who had steak, the food was hit and miss but generally quote poor. Deserts were almost non existent, nothing in the menu except refer to specials board, of which one of the two were not available. Really, are deserts that difficult to manage? The service was incredibly bad, I think we sat there for an hour with finished dishes sitting in front of people waiting to be collected. I was ignored for about 5 minutes while trying to pay the tab at the bar, two bar staff who walked past my section of the bar advised I would be better off moving to a different part of the bar.....2 metres away. The staff continued to serve people who walked up to the other section and did not come back to allow me to pay the bill, I moved 2 metres to the other section and again was ignored for some time even though it...

The service is slack but the food was excellent. We went to the hotel on the Sunday 27th January, 2019. My friend ordered a cocktail and I pick up the glass for her and she said that is not mine I order a cocktail. She spoke to the lady at the bar and said I ordered a cocktail , this is not a cocktail, the staff responded we do not make cocktails on a Sunday's, The bar lady said , " don't worry I will drink it later". so I said I hope you don't get drunk by then end of the day. I really don't know why she did not make the drink. The staff member was eating something and with a mouth full all the time was trying to speak to us, it is very rude talking with a mouth full. We had our lunch, later she came to collect the dirty dishes and I said could I please have my dessert which I ordered. She said yes i will bring it I waited for half an hour for this dessert which never came and i approached the gentlemen and asked him i still have not received my dessert and that I have been waiting. Our belated Christmas party at the Union Hotel could not have been better. Kathryn our events coordinator organised for us our own private marquee and bar with drinks served all night by Adam. Professional,  friendly,  amazing service. What an asset this guy is to the team.  Best bar tender ever. Really knows his stuff and was a lot of fun to have around. Nothing was any trouble for the staff at the Union.  35 dinner orders were taken and served  at once with no issues whatsoever.  The food quality was top notch. The Porterhouse steaks cooked to perfection. They also provided us with a JBL party Box Blu tooth speaker for our tunes to be played as loud as we wanted. When the bar tab reached it's limit it was simply closed off with a friendly heads up. No overrunning of the tab which I've had happen countless times before in other venues. I highly recommend having your next function at the Union Hotel.  My cheeks were aching from smiling so much. They truly know how to make your special event memorable.
