Velvet Bean Airport West — Restaurant in Melbourne

If we could give it 10 stars we would! Warmly greeted by staff after checking menu on display. Were catered for our 2 little ones by getting a window bench and were pleasantly surprised by the assortment of books and activities perfect for kids while they wait a short time for their large portioned meal. Drinks came out swiftly and an abundance of serviettes in readiness for the kids! Meals were generous portions and cooked to perfection - steak, calamari, seafood pasta; dishes that can sometimes be overdone and rubbery were exactly as needed and melted in our mouth. We weren't rushed out the door and time was taken to make us feel welcomed. We were too full to dine in for dessert but were glad we took a couple of their cheesecakes home to enjoy later. Definitely will be recommending this spot and returning...

The only grievance: charging a surcharge on card purchases, which is just daylight robbery by businesses who do it

The amount that went through on the EFTPOS was $22.70. No surcharge was added to the screen price.

Only after I got the receipt was the surcharge included. There is a notice near the cash register but printing it on a label maker, making the font size 3, and sticking it at the back of the EFTPOS machine is not acceptable! Tell people more clearly that there is a surcharge so that they can be more aware.

We went as a booking of 4 Boxing Day & were treated excellently at Velvet Bean.

We make a booking, but then we’re allowed to choose where we sat.

I had a dietary requirement & only when my meal arrived I told the waitress Sonia.

Straight away she remained friendly & took it back to the chef.

They made a complete new meal no questions asked & the waitress Sonia politely returned it.

She then checked back half way through the meal that everything was o.k & the food was beautiful. She informed the chef.

My 11 year old said it was the best chicken he had ever had!

Will definitely be returning...
