Back in Williamstown for a bit we have dinner and will sometimes play the pokies at the Vic. It's probably our local fave. Last night my son and I both had the porterhouse steak. Medium rare is my preference and this was exactly how it was cooked; full of flavour and tender, no gravy/sauce. I had veg and chips. The chips are unreal ... always hot and crunchy and veg cooked perfectly... not soft, but not hard, again, just right. A full fresh, flavoured medley of steamed beans, carrots, cauli, pumpkin. You might say nothing fancy .... steak, chips and veg, can do it at home ... But that's the point here isn’t it ... it's as good as if you cooked it yourself. You can trust that you're going to love it. Here, though, at the Vic Inn, the special treat is the Saturday night staff. You can trust that Helen will always warmly welcome you and ensure your evening will be most enjoyable; she'll meet your every request happily and efficiently. She greets both my sons and me by name as she does with all regular patrons. She's great, as is Sarah, who always has a smile for you, always helpful. Ash, always so courteous, seems to do everything. The "money man" he's friendly and sociable, helps you if your pokie is a problem, changes your coin to cash. Puts your keno bets on ... makes a great complementary latte. Ajay's face is the first you see. Security, door, helper, he's the first to greet you on arrival. And so, your evening just flows from there. We stayed to play the pokies last night; we both walked out winners! In the words of someone you know ... "We'll be barhk"😉 The previous week I had crispy skin salmon; it was cooked perfectly sitting on hash brown, quite a piquant flavour and the beans fresh just fabulous 👌 my son had the porterhouse, loves his steak .. also so inviting to look at. He devoured every mouthful. Thanks chef! Value at- We paid under $100 for the two meals plus a...
Read moreGreat place friendly staff and locals and impressive shadows in the main bar area on a sunny day before 1pm. Get down there on a Friday for the "Joker Poker" give away ( 5-6:30), which a chance to win the weekly jackpot and concludes with an impressive meat tray from 'The Butchers Club" In Williamstown.
Post COVID Lockdown Review- Things are sort of "back to normal" at Vic Inn. Obviously some changes to support physical /social distancing requirements. Now if only all customers entering would sign in using the Vic Gov COVID App and the staff would check that everyone has done so.....that would be good. New menu very good in my opinion. Highlights on menu: Steak Sandwich, Seafood Linguine and Roast of the Day. Sadly the fun of the Friday Night Joker Poker is no more. Staff say it an "unnecessary added expense" after lockdown. A real shame, as it always fostered a good vibe on a Friday and got the customers together in a festive manner. Maybe the management will change its mind later in the year. Hope so.
December 2023..........fix the bloody Air Con ....its stiflingly hot in the pub! People are going out to the smoking area to get some fresh cool air!!🙄😳☹🤮
Update June 2025 They have just got rid of the Pub+ card .........it only lasted around 6 Months and replaced it with their own loyalty card/program. Lets see how this goes. Personally i was happy enough with the...
Read moreNot a bad local Pub. Frequented predominately by locals.......Nice, friendly, helpful and courteous staff (mostly). Kitchen not bad. Lets see if they comply with the QR code entry requirements after this lockdown.
Update 2024/5 The place is unrecognizable since my last review 3 years ago. Almost all the staff that we know have gone (even Helen.😞) Anyway besides that now much has changed they still have a decent enough bistro and the place still seems relaxed and friendly. Unfortunately they have this new pub+ "loyalty program" that quite frankly is a scam. Yes in know most loyalty programs are, but this one seems one of the worst I've come across. Try to get a free drink or anything more than a $2 reward after drinking or paying the pokies for months ...............good luck. The $10 credit to get you signed on is just a lure to pull you in and it is near impossible to get any decent reward after that. The app itself is opaque, non intuitive and not quite frankly unworkable. I think it just another way to collect customer data and probably pass it onto a third party. (maybe for $$) . I'm thinking of contacting VGCCC and ask them...
