Oh how a wall mural catches my eye and lures me to explore. After some good news, I treated myself to an hour to myself at a cute little cafe in Williamstown called @kodamacoffee just off Dudley Street. Over the last few months during our three month stay in Williamstown, every time I’d passed it was well patronaged and on this overcast day, proved to be a little piece of heaven. I chose to sit in the second room which has one large table that could seat 8, but also has window bench seating looking outside or the rather clever standup coffee tables (with a stool for those that want one). I took a seat and a lovely person took my order, a cold milk chocolate and a Thai Chicken Toastie. Taking my time, I settled in with the NYT cryptic crossword and waited for my food. The drink was ideal, not overly sweet or too syrupy. Later a simple fare toastie of free ranged chicken with kewpi mayo, sambal, spring onion, fried shallots and coriander. The chicken was finely shredded which made the sandwich easy to eat in small bites. And so began my hour of “me” time. No racing off to an appointment. No hurrying home. No Zoom meetings or phone calls. Just time to myself immersed in my daily routine of NYT puzzles. Time flew by, had finished most of what I could, with only the Hard Sudoku to complete - which I just couldn’t do. My batteries somewhat recharged a d head clear. Back to the real world now …. Thank you to the excellent staff, who were not just friendly but also gave me the space I was so enjoying. And thank you for the delightful playlist that hummed away in the background.
Notes: wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. High chairs available. Seating outside. Dogs welcome. Dietaries are very well catered for. Parking is good but has time limits.

Read moreBeen coming here on and off since they first opened. Originally this was a brilliant cafe for breakfast/lunch.
Has since dropped off in quality. Most recent visit was the biggest disappointment yet. Ordered the eggs Florentine and the open omelette. Both dishes were unsatisfying. Dehydrated spinach on the eggs Florentine left us confused as to why you would include such a thing on this dish. The omelette was average.
Furthermore, when you operate an open view kitchen you should ensure your staff adhere to proper health practices. On several occasions the cook/chef was running her nose and then handling the food whilst not wearing gloves. She was also on her phone sending messages and handling food at the same time.
The final thing was the state of the glass water bottles. I’m not sure if they use a dishwashing machine or if they’re cleaned by a person but our bottle was FULL of finger prints on the inside around the neck. Totally off putting.
I would really like to continue supporting Kodak’s and its sister Cafes but it’s not easy to do with these type of situations.
Please pick up your game and get back to where...
Read moreHad the day off work so decided to head over to Williamstown on a whim. Having not been there in a very long time we relied on Google for cafe suggestions. Kodama was high up there.
We sat outside for easier pram access and to enjoy the nice weather. Coffee was ordered first and was well made with your usual latte art. Then came the decision of lunch - better go with the highly rated chili eggs, and the signature sweet potato and baked eggs. We did get a bit of food envy when the next table got their pancakes!
The chili scrambled eggs were delicious, the whipped ricotta was amazing and added a whole dimension to the dish. The only change would be a bit more heat, but we have a higher threshold for chili spice.
The baked eggs were also delicious, the mix of spices was aromatic and really made the sweet potato punchy. Along with the crispy buttered toast, the mini cast iron skillet was wiped clean in no time. I had chorizo added to my baked eggs to level up my protein intake, I'd like to have seen the chorizo added to the skillet rather than on the side, but that was an easy DIY.
Anyways, we'll be...
