WILDNESS — Restaurant in Melbourne

Was just looking for a convenient place, this is what came up.

Upon arriving, quiet place with decent aesthetics. Staff super friendly.

My friend ordered Chorizo something, of which I tasted and was quite good, great flavour all around.

I myself ordered a steak sandwich, it had been quite a while since I'd had one so was rather excited.

Upon its arrival, I was a little confused, as they lay the ingredients across two piece of bread with nothing to cover it, making myself be the one to turn it into a sandwich, which was a bit of a messy process. First bite of the sandwich was pleasant, a little tough, but the flavours were definitely all there.

However, unfortunately upon my second bite, I hit something extremely tough, definitely wasn't going to be able to bite through it. Upon taking the sandwich apart to further inspect, I saw that the steak was completely untrimmed, covered in cartilage and fat, taking it upon myself to trim it - it unfourtnately took up quite a large portion of the steak itself.

Upon going up to pay, I showed them a photo of what had happened and expressed that steaks going into a sandwich need to be trimmed of all the excess fat and cartilage, as biting into a sandwich should be (obviously) an easy experience. Unfortunately, who I believe to be the owner, began to tell me that sometimes steak have fat on them. I replied with "It goes in a sandwich, you really need to trim off the excess or it just makes for a terrible experience..." He then replied, "Some people just eat steaks differently I guess, some people enjoy them in different ways."

I decided to not continue the conversation, as it was clear that my opinion was not going to be listened to when it came to cartilage sandwiches with some steak on the side.

Credit where credit is due, the flavour was still nice on both dishes, and after the exchange at the counter regarding my complaint, he made my meal completely free of charge without me...

Little disappointing today have been half a dozen times before and very happy with the food but today sadly not and I did mention to the chap when I paid my bill .. poached eggs on toast grand daughter happy with my egg and bacon roll delicious my grand daughters chicken strip's were very dry and chewy with an after taste and daughters scrambled eggs very rubbery and spots of grey as like they had been cooked previous and put in a bay Marie to keep warm or perhaps microwaved not sure what was done to them to be like that, sorry guys but today I was let down by the quality of your food especially at the time was not busy and you had 2 cooks there so no one was under pressure and yes I was a breakfast cook for...

Service was average. The girls are lovely, but need more training. FYI to the owner/manager though- training (correcting them) loudly and in front of customers is not the way to build confidence especially when these girls are still in school. Wrong meals delivered to our table- absolutely not an issue. When our meals did come out, the wrong side was on my plate and I'm just lucky that whilst I don't eat pork I wasn't offended by it. Coffee was average- however I am a snob so I won't rate too harshly. Eggs were cooked perfectly, hollandaise had no flavour. Mushrooms were old. Why was carrot a garnish? It wasn't busy so don't feel there was an excuse for the mistakes that were made. Not sold...
