An unfortunate negative and long review. I had been to Piatto a few years ago, and loved it. I went tonight (a Saturday night), and had an oddly terrible experience. The restaurant/kitchen closes at 10:30. I got there just after 9:30 with a friend and was told that after 10pm there was no more dine in. It makes sense if the kitchen was closing, but the kitchen was open until 10:30. The owner told me he has to bring the outside furniture etc inside at 10, so we couldn't be there then. Odd, but we asked if it was enough time for us to eat and he said it would be fine. Anyway we ordered 2 seafood pizzas. One was a simple prawn tomato cheese etc.... the other was a marinara (mixed seafood. Calamari scallops and prawns). I then asked if he serves beer. He pointed to the fridge. I asked for prices as one normally would and he gave me a menu to check. Most of the beers were all the same price so i just picked a random one. The food came out a little later (in an efficient time tbh) and he brings out what looks like 2 identical pizzas. I asked why they look the same, as both had approx 8 prawns on the top, with cheese tomato etc. The owner then starts to say that one had other seafood on it. I asked which one, and he said the seafood was "inside". I was concerned, and said that they look identical. "Where are the scallops and other seafood? Both have prawns." He then went on to say that he put 2 scallops on the pizza (8 slices of pizza) and that they were $40 per kilo. It wasn't about the quantity but the quality. (there was actually 2 small pieces of calamari under some cheese and possibly 2 quarters of a scallop.) I wasn't happy and complained. He then started complaining about costs, about how much money he makes a week and that it's worth it. I explained that i have never experienced this before and that it wasn't right. He then complained that i was asking about beer prices and other things. Hahaha. The pizza still tasted good. I told him after we finished that the pizza was very good, but it wasn't worth the price and it definitely needed more ingredients as promised and that it was disappointing. He then complained some more, saying that we didn't know anything about costs etc. Overall good tasting pizza. Missing ingredients, but still uses quality and good ingredients it seems. Overpriced, and the owner has no understanding of feedback and...
Read moreDr jekyl or Mr Hyde? This was the question after reading the reviews. So we had to find out for ourselves. We ate in, Sat night, and ordered a Diavolo and Calabrese pizza, coke and a glass of shiraz. The owner and staff were super friendly, the food came quickly. So far Dr Jekyl. Well the pizzas were a surprise even though we tend to always try to buy wood fired oven pizzas, as they are better tasting. Both pizzas were absolutely yummy made with wholemeal flour that had herbs mixed into the flour, and the toppings were fresh and tasty, but the standout ingredient was the tomato sauce. A quick conversation with the owner and he explained that he added several ingredients to the sauce to minimise the acidity and the inevitable reflux that comes with average mass produced pizza. It was hard not to see and feel the love and commitment that he put into making his pizzas the best they could possibly be. They were really very delicious pizzas, which is really saying something when pizza is sold on virtually every street corner. So we gave him, a perfect score for the food and the service and the dedication to giving us his best. We sincerely hope that he can survive and prosper even in these very hard times. Thank...
Read moreVery friendly service, pizza was quite good, base was absolutely perfect. Although, my partner and I went in to have dinner, together... When my pizza arrived the waitress advised that the past was on the way, so I waited, 15 minutes, but the pasta never arrived... after we both ate the pizza together, we were then told the waitress is a trainee and forgot to give the pasta docket to the kitchen.. . Disappointed that the pizza bar doesnt talk to the kitchen to ensure that the food comes out to the same time. I myself have worked in hospitality and funyl enough a pizza/pasta restaurant and the pizza bar always checked with the kitchen to ensure that everything was times to be out together. The pizza was great, but after waiting almost an hour for the pasta, I can safely say, it was NOT wort the wait, it tasted like maggie packet cream sauce, thankfully due to the mix up we were not charged for this disastrous excuse for a dish. Safe to say, despite the lovely attempt to rectify the issue, we will not ever return to this...
