I don’t usually write negative reviews, but this experience was beyond disappointing. It was our first time trying this restaurant, and although we didn’t have a reservation, we were happy to sit outside in the freezing weather.
We ordered almost immediately and remained friendly throughout the process, even while waiting. After about 30 minutes, we noticed that every other table, even those who arrived after us, had already received their food. When we inquired, we were told our order would be ready in 2 minutes. However, it had already been 40 minutes, and still, no food arrived or updates were provided.
Frustrated but still polite, we decided to just pay for the starter we received (4 pieces of satay ayam) and leave. When I approached the cashier, I was met with an uncomfortable expression, as though I was wrong to pay without staying. I explained that it was unfair for us to keep waiting, but there was no acknowledgment of their mistake or an apology. In fact, it seemed our main order hadn’t even been started.
While I am in no position to give professional feedback, if you are looking to improve, I would suggest informing customers upfront if there’s going to be a long wait. This way, customers can make informed decisions and adjust their expectations. It’s also important to acknowledge customers when wait times become excessive and provide updates. People often have plans, and no one wants to spend excessive time waiting without communication.
As someone who works in hospitality, I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of communication and accountability was unacceptable. I don’t think I’ll be returning, as the service left a lot to be desired, even when we tried to be understanding. I hope you understand where we are coming...
Read moreI mistakenly assumed that since this restaurant provided high chairs, this was a family friendly establishment. My friend booked a table and upon arrival, the male owner at the front announced with a smirk “ We don’t have space for prams”.
I was 10 mins early for the bookings so I offered to go and put my pram in the car.
He made a big show of moving some chairs around to fit my baby in. Whilst he did make effort, the arrangement he made meant that we would be sitting across from my baby, who would not be in arms reach. Any parent or reasonable person would realise that this isn’t practical or safe. When I went to move a chair so I would be sitting closer to my baby, he told me off. Mind you, there was not a single other customer in the restaurant, neither inside or outside. It was completely empty.
I can appreciate that prams can be big and bulky, however there was nowhere on their social media or booking system that said prams couldn’t be accommodated. His smug and patronising demeanour made us feel like a big inconvenience and we left.
From what I can see and read, the food here is great, so it is a shame that this man is at the front of house representing the restaurant. He is a dismal example of hospitality and I can’t help but wonder if his delightful attitude is the reason the restaurant was completely empty at 6.30pm on such a busy, bustling street.
We went next door to Shimbashi Soba who were much busier, yet far more...
Read moreRude owner. We walked in without a booking and were waiting to be seated. Owner said “Sorry we are full.” We passed by the front and could see empty tables outside without reserved signs so we casually said “what about outside?” He turned to us speaking in a very rude way as if we didn’t understand English saying his kitchen was full, and there wasn’t enough staff in the kitchen to serve more customers. Clearly he didn’t say anything like that when we first asked. He didn’t even tell us if we should come back later. Well, even if he did, we’d never think of returning.
I would let it pass if I didn’t see other reviews on zomato. The owner is pretty passive aggressive on every review that gives lower than 4 stars rating, sometimes mocking them that the restaurant couldn’t serve a burger to earn higher rating. Seriously mate, you may be the most authentic Indonesian restaurant in Melbourne but you can’t cater for everyone’s taste and your attitude really turns people off. There should be a more professional way to deal with bad reviews but you seem too full of yourself to act...
